as i recall many have liked od because of the thickness and wind of the wire .. and it lights up all the way consistently.. but yeah ive used OS p3 and havent had much issue.. has been a goto for me.. and now i have a stash of 97's so as some may have looked amain is selling them cheap.. so grabbing a pack of 10 would do you for a while..

I'm having some difficulty tuning my r7. It seems no matter what I try the engine wants to run on after a long straightaway. any suggestions?

HSN is almost flush, LSN is really far in.

I've been all over the map with both needles. I can't seem to get it to stop from idling high after WOT and then dropping off.

Your LSN i way to fahr in. This engine likes a tad fat bottom end. My engines are just in from flush.
And something else, Picco based engines must be tuned a bit at a time. 5 minutes on the needles when you are close is to much. ( like OS...) Once you get it tuned right, you will find them very very consistent in tune.

Use Picco 5TH glowplug or the nr 5 Reds plug. For me it is the absolute best plug for the enigne.

I think your LSN is too lean , this engine need a little rich on LSN, you cannot tune this engine like OS or nova and my R7 the LSN is just out a very little from flat and I always using P4 plug. Hope this help.

Phillypete, check the temp of the engine, compare with other racers for your location

There aren't too many Reds motors in my area to compare to and the guys with experience on Nova or OS motors have a real difficult time getting my Reds to run right.

My engine temps have been around 200-210. Power seems a little sluggish to start but once it gets going it's pretty quick. Hence why we've been working on the LSN. Fuel economy has sucked. I've been struggling to get 8.

I'm going to take it back to flush on both ends and work on leaning out the top more and leaving the bottom as rich as possible.

As everybody else stated, keep the LSN on the rich side. The engine "survives" being a little lean on the HSN, but as soon as you are just a tad lean on LSN then you will suffer flameouts. I had a bit of a hard time when moving from Novas to REDS as well, but once you got the hang of it, you don't want to go back... Please check as well your idle screw and make sure the idle gap is not too big.
