ill wait to jump on one, and see if the team guys start running it, and assorted club guys who wont hold back on opinion... but thanks for the input, jq reprezent!!

gday all... so i managed to break in the engine a bit last weekend for a few tanks.. preheating to 70c - 100c and to bed in well at tank 2 i heated the engine to 120c + at what temp is the max that people have put theirs to when breaking in? being that you should run it in on the rich side for lubrication.. what has your experience been?

Racetemp on Reds engines is aprox 90-105 degrees celsius when it is 20-25 degrees outside. the two engines i used last year, ran it best at 90-97 degrees. So, i belive heatign to 120 is no point. Worst case senario is that oil in the fuel will coagulate. Ha happend a couple of times and that is a mess. If it happend, you can feel that the flywheel is not free araound the BDC.

I ran my R7 Evoke engine with the new HCX Horizontal carb this weekend and all I can say is WOW! I bought my R7 in October and ran it with the standard carb so I had a base line to work with. HCX = Lower, steadier idle, easy to tune, responds to tuning adjustments, and more top end and solid bottom end. Good run times and SMOOOOTH power from bottom to top. The original R7 was pretty darn sweet. Several guys at my home track made comments as to how strong my Reds R7 powered Xray XB8 ran and sounded! I say this as a driver with no promotional help from any manufacture. I pay to play with my own coinage!

You may have to do some F to C conversions on this. Most days, my engine likes running at about 235* F. So when I break in the engine I try and keep it at least above 200*... artifically of course. I point a heat gun sideways at the cooling head. Once the car is on the track, the temp drops drastically since you're not pushing hard and its on the rich side. I try and idle 3 tanks on the box before putting it down for that reason.

ohh yeah i saw that yesterday on neobuggy and drooool.. looks nice like the R7 but essentially its a red head with the HCX.. which.. ill consider getting for my TE2.. back up.. R5...?! hmmm not sure as ive set my sights on Ty's LE engine , had a Black and Blue head V spec new i never used as i enjoyed what i had back in 2007 axe cobra so im going to give this OS a go.. but to get back on subject related to REDS i had a great time getting upto 6-7tanks.. and yes it does sit at 97 - 105c and idles for oodles of time.. near ready for this saturdays race at LRCC here in sydney after what was a mad get together down south at IMCC's summer round 1 series.. promising talent and OG legend skills..

r5r is good for truggy, although I personally would run it with a 2112
