I picked up a red r5r v1.1 and the manual says up to 25% nitro. If I wanted to run 30% I would have to add a shim?

I would say run it, if it gives you any issues add a shim.

A touch of o rings lube helps and makes them seal better. It will make the o ring swell a bit as well.

So reading about the 521 sport and people saying reds are
hard to tune should I not get it? Should I get a os based engine? New to nitro

If you are new to nitro any motor will have a learning curve. I switched from OS to Reds last year and I am happy so far. The 521 will be less of an investment if you find out you don't like nitro.

Check out this video if you haven't yet, its long but lots of info. --------->Nitro engine tuning.

https://www.liverc.com/news/new-reds...kplate-teaser/

Anyone have an idea what this is supposed to do, beyond adding complexity and another potential air leak source?

Reduce drag between the back plate and the crank I would imagine. I am curious to see how well it works.

Same. There would have to be a noticeble improvement to justify the extra complexity, weight and cost. The cranks are already DLC coated and the friction with the back plate is likely marginal since everything bathes in lubricated fuel anyway. Part of me thinks this is the 2023 equivalent to fuel tube heat sinks.

Hello, i think about a new engine and i like the look of the new Reds 721
Is it correct that reds tuned in a different way than OS?

Do not forget the added rotating mass
