Hey Roy
Since your fully broke in. What runtimes are you seeing. I thought it was pretty amazing that with only right at gallon at my last race I was seeing 8-8:30. I just really feel like it will get 10-10:30 with the right set up.

thanks roy and brian

I had a tuned GRP and I really liked it...it was smooth enough to put the power down without a lot of wheel spin (which meant great acceleration, low tire wear, and good mileage). I will check into it...what pipe is working with this> I used to run a 9853...

Zixxer, on a comfortable day I can easily get over 10 minutes. Lately however, with the heatwave my runtimes have dropped to as low as 8-8:30. I can't wait for the Fall when the air cools off here.

Parts are now in-stock at Amain Hobbies, I think since last week.

H6T-MEDIUM is the stock plug and is really good all around

if the cliimate is very hot you may want to try an H7T-COLD

if the climate get cooleryou may want to try an H5T-HOT

so far the stock plug has worked great for me

Anybody know if the TQ engines have the APS coating on the crank and backplate like the GRP tuned had? That coating made the GRP crank(pin) quite a bit tougher.

That's a great question, and I did ask the factory this a few months back. The answer was no. Although the same factory that's making the TQ engine also produced the GRP mills for GRP, the APS coating was/is a GRP patent, so the TQ engine does not have it.

However, the TQ engine does have a more durable bronze mix in the conrod bushing, without losing any lubricity. We have not seen or heard of any premature crank-pin wear. I haven't even heard of anyone breaking a rod on the TQ engine yet, except for one that sucked dirt. The only mechanical premature failures we've seen is loss of compression if the motor is raced too lean for too long too many times.

Default TQ Engine Service

I finally replaced the conrod, wrist pin, clips and front bearing on one of my TQ engines last week. I had no symptoms of wear. I just wanted to play it safe. I had planned to change both bearings but the rear bearing felt and looked just too good. The balls were still very shinny, and the inner race had minimal lateral play.

The crank pin diameter was still slightly over 5.05mm and round. The cylinder still has enough pinch to stick TDC w/glow plug removed. After the rod change, with my human eye and feel, there was no difference felt with the new parts.

Please bear in mind that because most of my rc engine experience came from Piccos, Novas, and RBC's, I'm very anal about engine longevity. I'm not satisfied unless I can get 8-10+ gallons from an engine. With these TQ mills, so far I am truly amazed.

Thanks for clearing that up

Yeah, the conrod seems a nice improvement. Will try one in my GRP when the current GRP rod wears out

my TQ 501 ran awesome all weekend (at 6730ft BTW, higher than the nats track)

temps were at 208 after the 30min main and I was able to get 2nd overall with some of colorado, utah and idahos best drivers.

Over the last couple weeks I've been able to get the engine fine tuned for our elevations with alittle effort. My engine setup for the high altitude:

Head- .019"
plug- OS P3 - H6 GRP would be pretty close and yield better runtime
Pipe- dynamite 086
carb insert- 8mm
temps- 200~
runtime- 8mins

air temp 85-90'
humidity- 20-25%
fuel- custom sidewinder I mixed 38% nitro, 10.8% oil

you can easily get another minute + of runtime if you run it at 240-260 and have a mellow layout. This layout was super punched everywhere.... big jumps and lots of WOT.

mellow layout, better air conditions, H6 plug, run it at 240 and use a 6-7mm restrictor 10mins~ should be easy.

240 is a little too hot for these engines. I wouldn't go over 220 but I would use a smaller insert like a 6 or 7.
