Rayaracing sleeve resizing and tooling
 

I don't post here much anymore, but felt like I owed Ray A some good words since he's been keeping my engines fresh since about 2003 or so. I don't mean he's keeping them fresh for nothing either, I pay for all the stuff he's done and does for me. I just got two sleeves back in the mail yesterday and once again I am very pleased with how they turned out and that they look as good as new again. The one set I sent him the piston would go thru the top of the sleeve. Now it's back to new or better than new tolerances. The other one just needed a freshening up so I can keep my trust in it.

So anyway, thanks Ray! I have used a couple other guys here and there just to see how they compare. I have yet to find one that sends my stuff back looking even close to clean and honed as you get them. Price is right, and Ray's a friendly guy who responds to emails. Keep up the good work!!

I had a sleeve pinched by Ray a couple of months ago. Very fast turn-around, great job. I wouldn't hesitate to send him another one.

how much life can you get out of a re pinching as to a new piston and sleeve ? and is the break in process the same thanks

All things being equal (you dont overheat or underheat your engine) you can expect as much as 80% new life from a repinch as to buying new..break in is the same, but not as lengthy..

The quality of the pinch directly effects longevity..

There are other major factors involved before deciding if a repinch is worth it

Ray just resized my 2nd sleeve and I recieved it today. He pinched my hyper .21 a month ago and it was so good I had to send him my RS4 III piston and sleeve.

For $22 bucks and under a week turn around I figure I can kill off this motor and get $22 worth of entertainment out of it.

He's definately recieving all my sleeves from here on out.

These miniature two cycle engines have little hardware inside BUT all must be in acceptable condition. Do check for crank pin/conrod bushing wear,and bearing condition. I'll take care of the light liner scratches & pitted piston :nod:

Last Saturday at a local track in my area I chatted with one of the guys in the pits, whom in last year sent me a WS7 P&S set with 4 + gallons fuel on it, fallowing race his air filter fell off. In short, a light hone and polish removed the liner scratches in addition to an average resizing of the cylinder to adjust for the excessive piston wear and set was ready to be reinstalled with a my suggested reasonable re-breakin. I usually suggest heat cycling 4 times or so on the bench and on the ground for at least 6 tanks, at temp & running on the rich side. If I remember correctly from last years conversation with him at one of our local tracks (well over 12 months ago) he did half of the above described suggested re-breakin. :eek: To make a long story short, I was advised last Saturday that engine has ran another 5 gallons since service, without even a conrod change. He changed the conrod one time approximately one gallon before my reconditioning-resizing service, around the 3 gallon mark. The crank shaft to bearing wear is at this time excessive he told me, and a "A" main racer on a budget he is, "gona run her til she busts", so he says. at the end of this season I may want to get both of my OS speed pinched. if not at least one, getting near 4 galons on one and wondering how do I send parts to you?

Do I have to send you just the piston and sleeve apart? I dont' want to scrach the piston tring to take that snap ring out.

Do you also supply con rod's and pin for a charge? send it back a built just install type of deal?

You can send the piston with conrod attached and the sleeve in a padded envelope. I usually put it in a sandwich baggy then put it in the envelope.

Helivaguy, Thanks, I use my service allso.LOL engine problems caused by air filters falling off ,etcetera, happen to me too.everything + anything that normaly don't happen to me has happend my race season this year.hopefuly bad luck has passed and I can improve my driving now.lot of fast racers here in western new york,and close by canadian clubs now.
