Default how to make nitro fuel

With winter here in Wisconsin, I need a winter project. I know someone here makes nitro fuel, just hoping someone can share. What are the ingredients and ratios? I know there is nitro and oil, but what is used as the base? Thanks.

There are only three main ingredients in RC fuel. Methanol, nitromethane and oil. 16-30% nitro, 8-14% oil. For oil, the easiest to find and use would be Klotz Benol and techniplate.

$60/gal for nitromethane, about $10/gal methanol and $5 quart of benol, no real savings over buying the fuel made already. peace of mind knowing what the "real" percentages are...

The best way is to call Byrons and buy about 20 unlabeled gallons of fuel. Make up some labels and stick em on there and waah la you have your own brand of proven fuel!

Hahaha thats a good reply lol

I mix my own fuel... Is a lot easier for me because i work at the LHS, but down under alot of the big name fuels like byrons and oddonel are not available. Works out about $11 a litre all mixed up at full retail, which is not that dear compared to the common fuels that we stock on the shelf.

And when ive got $2g plus in engines i dont want to run cheap RTR s**tty fuel, and its not too hard to mix, just concentrate or it can cost an arm and a leg when yuu eff up the mixtures

Thumbs up

Making your own Nitro Fuel
What other ingredients are required to make your own fuel besides:

nitromethane
methanol
castor oil
synthetic oil

Anything else?

I read somewhere that it also needs a anti-corrosion inhibitor and an anti-foaming substance. But I can't find anymore info on that.

Also is there a substance one also needs to add to the nitromethane so its suspended uniformally in the methanol, so they don't separate?

I want to make these blends:
25%-30% nitro
12% oil content ---- synthetic/caster 60%/40%

Thanks
