Great engine. I love mine and it is still fat. I am about at the 1 gallon make starting to lean her out.

+1. Rex is the man.

Need a new mill for truggy. I have been eyeing up the maxy cinco or maybe that X7 that you have leftover. I will get ahold of you Monday.

I have a alpha 2090, werks 2058, and a ofna 086. The vid at teas with the 2090 pipe looked like it ran well with the x7

In the last week or so rebuilt a few "modded engines" from 3 different companies, lets just say I was not impressed with any of them. Most charge $80-$100 more and I am pretty confident that it would be less than a 5% improvement.

Here is a pic of an Alpha crank I drilled before silicone, some guys barely drill in at all and fill it.

The last engine I worked on looks like it came from Australia, they have some pretty wild engines down there. The thing that disturbs me about this is it takes away so much counterbalance weight. And the crank window was really opened up also.

The guy that mod that engine is at least butcher....

Hoese37 08-07-2013 05:23 PM

That crank looks identical to a guy on ebay..

Maximo 08-07-2013 05:28 PM

yikes those do look quite rough...

Over the years I have had all sorts of "modded" engines pass thru my shop... I actually dyno tested most of them while I had them... A 5% gain would have been a blessing compared to a few that I tested as they actually lost substantial power over stock due to the damage that was done them.....

I imagine Neal, I have respect for what you know about these engines. I know you can make some big power and invest alot of time. The 5% engines I was talking about was barely touched, not like this pic.

All good dude  !

As a general rule I would say that the more visible a modification becomes, the less beneficial that modification will be to the engine...Of course like anything there is some exceptions... but they are of course the rare exception .....

Rex machines a groove in the block. He posted this pic a few pages back.

hey rob, if you do not want to machine the block, the alpha specific caps work ok. You just may need to run a locking compound that buku sells to secure the cap in place since the end of the case has a cast, tapered snout to it. Some also just use a rtv silicone.

Another option you can do to help the cap fit better without fully machining the block it to just ever so slightly machine the block to just true up the end of the block and take the high spots off (pic below) This also works ok.

But overall, the full machining of the block to fit the nova size is the best overall solution as dan posted above. The cap fits on the block very well with no distortion, and no locking agent is needed. It gives you the peice of mind that the cap will stay in place. I would highly recommend that route
