Default 2100 vs 2090 pipe in truggy

Hi Everyone,
I'm preparing a recommendation for my friend for a truggy setup. Engine wise it will be the Ad2 which I run in buggy and love it but I could only find an Ad2 combo paired with 2100 pipe. Adam mentions on his YT channel that in truggy he uses the 2090 pipe + 85mm header. Will the 2100 pipe be good for truggy as well? To buy the Ad2 and 2090 pipe separately is more expensive than in a combo (approx 50 euro) - would you say it's worth paying the extra money?

if you buy from drakes website you have the option of which pipe and header to choose from in combo form.

Unfortunately, the price is huge for me (EU based) if I order from USA and in Europe I could only find 2100 combo so my question remains valid 🙂

The truggy will require the 2090 + 85mm header. The 2100 give a linear power band suited for buggy for grip but not for truggy which is heavier and requires a higher torque curve which the 2090 provides.

I've been thinking of joining a 10th scale nitro club not too far away with my xxx-nt, or picking up a 22t 4.0 conversion. The question becomes should I use my NOS OS Max-15CV-R, or pick up a OS MAX-12TG v4?

Anybody knows what set screw size is used to hold the OS2090 or 2100 tuned pipes?

Looking at a B2103 S low profile for my next nitro buggy engine. Is this still a good purchase for $570? Any recommendations for pipe/manifold? Coming from novarossi.

IMO - the AD2 is the best speed out. The low profile is a good engine, the down fall I think is the 22D carb. the more popular carb is the 21J which is not so finicky to tune.

I run the protek S03 which Iíve been told is the same engine and I love it in buggy. Iíve had no issues with the 22D carb and find it super easy to tune. I have that thing holding a serious idle can leave it for a while hit the throttle and quick response. Iíve tried it with 75mm header and both 2090 & 2100 pipes. I like the 2100. Feel like still has plenty of bottom for buggy and a little more top. If you like a very torquey more aggressive throttle feel then go with 2090.

I still run Novas and the difference I find tuning them and the OS is OS carbs take less needle adjustment, especially on the low and mid needles.
Letís say an engine with same sound and throttle response. A Nova that will need a full hour adjustment on a needle an OS might be half an hour adjustment

Great response, thanks! I had it narrowed down to the B2103 S since I love that low profile head.

My current options Iím considering:
- OS B2103 S
- OS B2104
- Ultimate MXS
- Samurai RM edition
- AD2 (discontinued on amain?)

I send all my engines out to drake, so thatís next after a purchase. I could just rebuild my P5 since itís been flawless, but I really want to try an OS.

Thatís some list of great engines to choose from.
Personally Iíd probably go with the MXS bc itís based of the ty 2 engine. I broke in my ty 2 beginning of last year and paired it with the Hipex 2135 that little square stroke is a beast in buggy and at wicked weekend I ran a 10min main without pitting.

I would definitely rebuild that P5 and have it as a spare or practice engine. Love my P5, about to break in a 2020 edition in the next month probably.

Finally, I had my first race with my new "old" OS Speed Vspec. Engine was broken in using the EBIS method and had another half gallon through it. I paired it with a Novarossi L-shaped 41019 and an OS 2090.

Wow, Stephen, you didn't promise too much. It was really nice, almost untouchable down the straight and no slouch down low either. Runtime was very good, too, 9min pit stops were no problem.
Makes me kinda wonder, why this engine isn't produced anymore.
Very happy with this setup, couldn't ask for more, only thing would be, the head is really high.
Oh, and I didn't even adjust compression for 16% Nitro content yet, which we have to run here in Germany.
