the losi mounts can be a bit tight on some motors when i had mine what i used to do was put the mounts on the motor and leave it all loose then bolt it down to the mount , ten tighten your motor the plates , are you putting the mounts on in the rite direction ?
|
Hi thanks for the replys, the mounts are reversible so you can pull the motor 2mm forward for when you use a normal clutch set-up instead of the Losi 4 shoe clutch.I got around the problem by drilling the holes in the mount slightly bigger where the pin locates on the top and bottom plates,i think this is because the Reedy motor is slightly narrower then other motors, certainly narrower then my RB,but its all fitted now, just waiting for the weather to improve a bit, then i can get on with breakin in the motor, can't wait.

HI
can u guys suggest a good pipe for good fuel millage and low-mid end power? Thanks |
I honestly don't think you can go far wrong with the AE 2035 pipe and manifold buddy. EFRA legal as well. 'Tis a good all rounder in my opinion ;)
Done about 15-20 tanks on my engine since i've got it. Very impressed. P4 plug and AE pipe and manifold. Getting a steady 8mins 30secs already. Still running rich on the bottom though and plently of smoke through the rev range. Did have a problem with it feeling very 'flat' half way through the power curve. Found that out to be a lean LSN...some how about 0.5 of a turn to lean...woops lol |
My poor Reedy :(
Well truly one of the best running and most reliable motors I have had. Sadly while doing a complete tear down preparing for next season, I noticed that the putty in the crank moves a bit and is really soft. I'm thinking I caught it before it actually came out. So I guess the real question is... I got this motor when they first became available. Other then the putty it runs great, but would like to know if this is something I can send it back for? It has about 5 gallons on it. |

putty in crank
I have the putty coming out of 2 of my reedy motors cranks that both have less then a half gallon on them. I was wondering if anyone new if I can just send them the cranks in because I have spent the money and had both motors modded and really would like not to have to pay for it again on 2 new motors.
Thanks, Nick |
Modding the motor will likely remove the warrenty. Give AE a call, and ask them. They may replace the crank for you, but i know they will not give you and new engine and pay for modding.
Most likely, they will replace the crank and case. That why your carb, and piston and sleeve are still your old ones. |
Crank
Just curious if there is another crank that would work in these motors. They internals are very similar to a V-spec. Does anyone Know?

hmm sounds like the cranks are not the greatest on these. my engine go to guy told me this a month or 2 ago and now I think its starting to show..
|
All engine mfg's have problems at times. They are dealing with it. Let's not make this bigger than it is.
|
yea im not gonna bash them or anything sounds like they work good they just gotta get the bugs worked out of them. i just took some helful advise from one of my buddies that knows engines in and out. and im glad i did would have hated gettin this motor and havin this happen to me. but also dont the speed p/r/s and crank work in these?

They had a batch that the silcone epoxy went bad on. They are replacing the cranks for those that have the problem engine. Name another brand that will do that?
 |
can you run the engine without the poxy?
|
P4 or OD 97T, 2060 should be good. P3 should work. I have a new Reedy/2035. Going to get TT 2039 at well. More Top-end.
2025 typo = 2035 |
2025....?? Can't even find a number on the EFRA site from 2009. Or is that a typo? hmmm, could do with another pipe anyway for a bit more top end.

hi is the stock shimming ok to run with gen 2 25% please got os p3 and o donnell 97t plugs and an os 2060 fitted ??
|
Stock shimming seems fine with 25% gen2 Dan. Been running 25% Gen2 on mine with no hassle. I did try the P3 during summer and personally couldn't get on with it. Not to say you won't but i now use a P4. I think the 97T plug should work fine also. Haven't run the 2060 but i think a few on the forums here have and find it to be a nice drive :)

i'm on my 5th tank, still super tight. when can start race tuning?
i'm preheating to 260 deg every tank |
I started to race tune (but still on the rich side at about the 10th tank)

reedy .21
hey guys i am sure this has been covered on this thread but i didnt take time to read all 700 of them. a guy i race with just bolted this engine in his 8ight t 2.0 and i must say what a turd of an engine !!! what gives, it wont even start running good till it hits about 300 degrees and that cant be good. called associated and they told us to pull the carb and see if the epoxy in the crank is red or black, and if it was black to sent it back and they would replace it. we checked and it was the red. what few threads i read apparently there is an air leak problem between the block and carb so we will try to seal that up any other suggestions ????? also it has an 053 pipe on it.

Why get mad? It may be a inconvience but they will fix it for you. At least they didn't deny it like other companies do. I have first hand experience with it.

What plug is he using? The p4 is the ideal plug for the motor and temps are lower (230-250).
|
The Reedy has alot of low end snap. Most of the time people will leave the stock gearing in there car and keep leaning the top trying to get top end. I know because I did it. I went up one tooth on the bell and still had really good bottom and the top end was much better. Mine was running 250 last weekend with plenty of power.
|
reedy
well that probably makes more sense than anything else i have heard becuase we left the stock 13 tooth bell on it and it is the top end that stinks, maybe we will throw a 14 on there with a softer clutch spring and see what happens then
|
For some reason double post much later.
|
Heys guys I'm about to pick one of these bad boys up and I was just curious if you all had any tuning advise. Such as how it reacts to needle changes and such. I already know I can expect temps in the 260 which is fine with me. I'm really looking forward to bolting it in. Only if it would be here now!!
|
Reedy 121VR
At our track we are getting 260 - 280 degrees. I'm at 1 1/2 gallons. I love the powerband. A lot of bottom and top end for me. I run a 8 T 2.0. I have read all the posts and others have been seeing the same temps. I love this motor so much I bought two more.

Reedy For Sale
I have a Reedy .21 Buggy/Truggy motor for sale. Used slightly with only 1 gallon through it. The motor is in the original box with the instruction, extra carb venturi, and shims. I have motor sealed it and it's ready to go. There is no damage to the head, since it has been under a truggy body (looks Brand new). If you have any questions please ask.
I'm asking $175 picked up or we can meet at 1/8 Wonder, or ARC. If it needs to be shipped add $10 Thanks Eric |

Also, once your motor is a gallon old, you need to change the shim. Take the stock shim out, and put the new shim that came in the box in. It raises the compression slightly, and gives you more power. |
I cant get my new 121 to idle with out the ignitor. Ive tried new plugs, same result. Any ideas?
The motor is at stock settings. Running byrons 30% and p4 plugs. Im not a newb, but its been a while. Like 4 years. |
