Default Help Picking Engine Out

I am wanting to get into 1/8 nitro buggy racing, but I am having a hard time deciding what engine to buy. I'd like to say best bang for my buck but am not opposed at spending a little more money for quality and performance.

What are some suggestions please?

Most people on here will say get anything OS based, but if you're looking for the highest possible manufacturing quality in any RC engine, you need to look at FX engines. I have just over 51 litres of fuel (13 gallons?) on my current engine, without having it pinched, and it has compression left for at least another 10 litres.

They are fairly priced as well, in Europe they are much cheaper than most OS Speeds, I believe in the US as well.

The break in on my Werks B6 was the easiest I've ever had from an engine and Ron offers great support here in the forums and via email/phone.

Triton is similar with regards to support although I haven't run one of their engines myself.

Really... 51L...

He is looking for a simple motor, the issue with FX in the US is lack of distribution... and for that parts!

OS parts are easy to come by, and many brands are also switching over to OS for the reason that they work and are high quality...

There are many lesser brands that work just fine, Dynamite, SH, Alpha, lower line Piccos, etc etc. Key is getting parts... and for that reason the one brand to not even consider in the US is Orion...

I would say that Performa has great engines for the buck as well.
Half the price of an OS speed and can still keep up with more expensive engines like OS, REDS etc.

I haven't run one yet but the Reds R5R has been pretty popular in my region. The Combo is also pretty affordable too.
The best thing would just be to go to your track and check up on what the people are running.

The best bang for your buck race motor right now is the Flashpoint FP02. Period.

If you're staring out, buy something even cheaper. Try that SH motor on amain for $180.

Good call,

..and the FP02 is OS Based at that, so not only do you get awesome quality, but you can find parts almost anywhere.

I am in the middle of deciding right now as well! The Flash Point is my #1 option but it is out of stock right now. I really need an engine in about 2 weeks because that is when it gets warm enough to run out here. I've narrowed it down to the Ultimate M3-X or the FP02 - both are out of stock, I am also looking at the R5R (without a pipe) which is in stock. I've also taken a look at the OS 21XZ-B, but trying to find an alternative for a $80 2090 pipe. I've looked at SH but am worried about quality and also want support on the track.

And my first Reds R5R 5.0
I hope it's all good, reliability, stability, durability and most importantly who likes to use low fuel😁
So far I've started the shooting process, I have 1 Liter fuel.
All right, Are now... Super easy the 4 deposits to idle, never been down 1 time always working.
Then on the ground in progress, super good.
