Did anyone ever really try this engine or know what was inside?

you sure? Pretty sure this engine came out before the 2103?? I feel this engine is a better looker then the low head speed and I really like the traditional head on my engines.

Yes this is a B2103 Type S Piston and liner. The differences are a taller head and different carb. The carb is the one used on the B2103 Type R (O.S tall head). I have seen this engine at my local Track it's quite impressive.

Third party manufactures are using the tall head and so is O.S Graupner in Germany, they have their own Limited edition engine that has a B2103 Type S base. The reason is you can lean the engine more get more performance and even better fuel millage.

Parts on the new B2103 are able to be swapped as its the same Crank / Case.

Looking at the pictures of this engine I just have say it is soo beautiful. Nothing to add as far as anything just wish I could see it run in my buggy with me controlling it. Right now 🙏

This is my 8th OS Speed based off-road engine. Just finished breaking it in (10-tank Tessmann method).
Runs like a champ, same OS engine quality and performance. Big thumbs up.

Thought about getting the optional ceramic rear bearing, but it ran so well I'm leaving it alone.

Is this engine using a short or long needle LSN? Or did OS stop making short LSN needle carbs? I remember that first XZB had a short needle LSN and caused a lot of problems. The XZB Spec 2 with the long needle carb was a lot better.
I've been out of RC for 4-5 years, so I'm sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, but I'd like to get a new nitro car for next season with an OS based engine.

Here's a related post on O.S. carbs.
OS Carbs - 21J Ver 1,2,3

Yes, O.S. went away from the short low speed needle quite a while ago.
This year's new engines come with the 22D and 22E carbs, which are an evolution of the best one they had IMO, the 21J3(B).
