Problem with engine?

Yes, It could come from dirt but most of the time it is from a broken glowplug, broken piston, broken piston clip or even a ball from a ball bearing.

So does this mean the motor is stuffed as far as the piston and head are concerned?

Do a full disassemble of the engine and inspect all parts, for sure the ones as mentioned. If there is still a slight noticeable pinch then the motor should run fine again afer a rebuild
If you can not find a thing then it must be dirt, most of the time shown with scratches on the crankshaft arround the rotating intake. Clean it all, use a piece of waterproof sandpaper to polish the piston head and the button head and put it all together again. Tip for the button head: use the tip of the glowplug to clamp it in a dril or a dremel and let it turn arround anp push a piece of waterproof sandpaper to it. Be sure to feel the bearings if they are still OK.before assembing it again. |

UPDATE
Ok here are a couple of pics after i disassembled the engine. Probably not looking good. Need you guys honest opinions. I could not disassemble all the way as i could not get the piston sleeve out and didnt want to force it out causing damage it seems like it is stuck tight so therefore coudnt inspect bearings or crankshaft. Everything seems to turn ok with no unusual noises or resistance when turning the crankshaft. Engine has been reassembled and the engine when first starting will idle perfectly until it warms up then dies with no speed up or slow down of revs it just dies. Then you cannot get it to idle or even run again after this happens. I have tweaked it rich and lean and back to factory sttings but nothing seems to work. I see a pull starter and a normal glowplug. It looks to me it a kind of RTR engine?
RTR engines can be found in a range from 70 to 150 dollar, you have to think if a complete restore of this is worth the money compared with a new one. |
The engine is a Hyper 21 8 port and i got it as a second hand engine 7 years ago with the Hyper 7. The pull start was on it when I bought it but is now not used/broken and I use a starter box. If the engine is not worth saving then yes I will buy another cheap engine as I do not race anymore if you think it is stuffed. Engine had not been started for 5 years until recently and has been running fine since resurrection up until now. Actually since up until the bearings in the clutch bell blew up recently.

Compared with some parts: https://www.nitrohouse.com/Hyper-21-8-port_c_740.html The P/S/R set alone will cost you 60, The main bearing 16, the all the work, cleaning the crankshaft etc... It is your choice , I would never renew such a cheap engine. |
Yeah probably looking at replacing this one as i think it is coming to the end of its life cycle and not worth rebuilding. Thanks for your input.

Do yourself a favor bro and go on the for sale threads on this website, pop in .21 engines in search bar in those sale threads, find an os 21, or even a werks .21 second hand. Make sure u ask questions and if u need help message me if u need help inspecting a potential buy cause I havnt been burned yet and I’ve git some nasty cheap deals on some high quality engines still really fresh. U can probably pick up a very good engine on here for a hundred bucks. If not I have a few great engines i could consider helping u with. |
