Adapting a turbo head to an old engine
I mentioned this in another thread, but I wanted to put a few different questions out there to get a little more information. I have a Novarossi BX21 Paris engine that I’d like to convert to use Turbo plugs. I looked through all of the current engines Nova makes and not a single one of them has a 16.66mm bore. So I looked through the list of current production Engines for one with a bigger bore than my BX. I would then shave larger head button down to fit the smaller 16.66mm bore. Can anyone tell me what the screw spacing is on the Legend .25 or the Roma .25 or both and also the depth the head button protrudes into the bore?
The part number head I’m looking at is PN28000-25. It will be far cheaper to modify this head than having a new one made - provided the depth of the button is the same or deeper than the factory head.

Indeed a short stroke engine. You can mount a button from a square stroke model, those are close to 16.5
You can also take a look to some OS models, there are some short stroke OS engines

The Mantra has a 16.42mm bore. The .24mm difference is fairly significant. Don’t you think?

I have used ones a 16.22 button on a 16.44 bore without an issue....
But hey:

I will look into that as an option. Thanks. Do the Atom engines use the exact same taper and length glow plugs as the Novas do?

It looks rather difficult to find parts for the Atom V1 short stroke engine. Dialed hobbies appears to be the dealer for those engines and I couldn’t find anything for the V1. Only the SV1 which is the long stroke version.

You can nut use Nova plugs but who cares, just use OS plugs

And if I’m not mistaken, the Arrow is an OS clone. The head would likely be drilled to accept OS plugs which I understand are different than Nova plugs. I would I be right in that assumption?

I appreciate all of the info shared so far. I do not support OS in any way, so using their plugs is out of the question. So I’ll head back to square one for now and keep looking around. I’m not against using the Roma/Legend .25 head and shaving it down to fit. I think that’s looking like my best option if I want to stick with Nova glow plugs.
It seems thr C6TGC was replaced with the CT06 IIRC. Basically still the same plug?

I have used a head button from the first OS based Ninja for my old BX21 short stroke and it was an almost direct fit. Only the head shims were a few tenths of mm different. Easy conversion.

Thanks for that info, but I’m not willing to use OS parts in this engine. The whole point is to use the same glow plugs as the rest of my Novas.

The recently released BX3 turbo engine is a short stroke affair nearly identical to the BX21 aside from the port count and other minor details like the head button. The BX3 head button is Nova PN 28032 and is nearly identical in size and shape to the BX21 head other than the style of plug fitted. The squish band is .03mm deeper on the turbo head (which I expected to see), so compression will be raised slightly over the stock head. This is virtually pointless for most guys here, but it’s worth noting for any other vintage goons like myself holding onto these ancient engines for no other reason than they’re not worth as much as we paid for them and thus won’t sell them.
I’ll set the BX up the same way I set my P5 up and have a short stroke and long stroke in my 8T. Now to get a better clutch for the 8T. I’m thinking Buku.
