Default Finally....I remember why i hated English class

Wow what a weekend. Officially 63 Drivers with 136 Entries. Tim Copp from Cali was the furthest traveled but we appreciate all that came from Castlegar, Penticton, Kelowna, Kamloops, Victoria and our American friends from the Seattle and Portland areas. I really appreciated the help we received from our surrounding Club leads. It just proves that we have a strong on-road community that we can lean on for help when we need it.
Next, I need to thank our sponsors, without them this weekend wouldn’t have been possible. These companies stepped up and provided sponsorship for each class, Hans at options-rc, Keith and Anthony at Orca America, Cam at GoGo Hobbies in Coquitlam, Wes at R/C Pit Stop in Langley, Danny at Apexrcproshop.com / ProSpec North America, Willie at Hobby Authority Distribution with the G-Force Hobby and Xpert RC Servos. Last but certainly not least Alex at Gripworksrc.com not only did he Sponsor the F1 class but he also provided the stock of tires for the stock and modified class and provided an onsite hobby shop for the racers. Our Raffle prize sponsors were outstanding as well Eric from PROTOform, Paul Lemieux from Gravity RC and Motiv RC, Randy Pike from Team Tekin, Don from Team Associated, Willie again from G-Force, Xpert Servos and ARC. Hobby Square the retail division of Hobby Authority Distribution. Last but not least Mick Szirmay from RCTAGZ.com for the name decal certificate and the outstanding job he did for us designing and manufacturing the awards. All his Idea, great feeling to be able to use his artistic ingenuity to get Great looking original awards for our racers.

Next I want to thank the rest of the OGR Crew, Chris, Owen, Dan and Doug (Bob the Builder) For sacrificing your time this weekend with me I’m proud of what we pulled off and we work together well as a team. Next our tech crew of dedicated races, we know that we can lean on these guys at all times for help and they always come through for us, Fast Eddie Dinter, JT John Tsang, Ed Mardones, Mark Martin and returning back to Vancouver from Calgary Chuck DeBelen. You guys stepped up big for us this weekend and we couldn’t have pulled this off without you.

G-Force 21.5 Mini saw some great performances and sportsmanship in the B Main with Mason Chickloski and Casidy Miller taking the bump spots. Casidy and third place finisher Kate Cousins had a tangle on the last lap with Kate giving back the spot and having a close race to the line. Great sportsmanship was all over this weekend. The 10 car A Main was a battle from the Tone. Three drivers dominating for the entire 6 minutes. These guys did a great job battling each other and heavy traffic from the start ending with Justin Gilkison from Sultan, Washington taking the win by under a second from Brandon Rogers from Penticton. Chuck was right with them and claimed third after being caught at the line by the buzzer. Congratulations to all of the competitors.

GoGo Hobbies 1/12th Stock 13.5 was the second largest class of the weekend with 28 entries. Greg Gherasim had a rough weekend for qualifying with a couple mechanical difficulties. He pulled it together when it counted and won the C main and bumped to the B. Starting at the back of the B he worked his way through traffic and had a great battle with Ron Lui for the lead when both were claimed by backmarkers allowing Brent Wende from Kamloops and Chad Hudson for Chilliwack to sneak by to battle for the Ticket to the A main. Brent took the win followed by Chad Ron and Greg. I’ll preface this race by saying I was looking forward to it more than I expected. Starting on the Pole was Tim Copp all the way from California thanks to Brian Bodine. Brian brought his own challenger with him. The race began with Tim out front followed by Canadian Champ Blake Bell and Brian Bodine. On the second lap Tim caught some bad luck in the form of a traction roll dropping back into the clutches of the hard charging field. That was certainly not the end of this fantastic race. I’ve seen these two do battle before but the show that Blake and Brian put on was nothing short of spectacular. Close clean racing through back markers with Craig Roberts hot on their heels… it didn’t let up for all 8 minutes. In the end they we separated as they crossed the line by 2 hundredths of a second. Followed by Craig Roberts. Fourth was also tightly contested at the end with Luke Pitman edging out the recovering TQ holder Tim by 6 thousandths of a second… I think Luke’s transponder was mounted a millimetre closer to the front than Tim, it was that close. Great driving by all participants.

Touring Stock 17.5 presented By Orca America. The largest class of the weekend with 29 entries. The Mains started out with Dan Weeds from Victoria taking the bump into the C Main. The C Main was tightly contested with Greg Gherasim taking the win by 6 hundredths of a second over Brent Wende from Kamloops. Under a second back for them was 3rd place Rob Sorjonen from Langley. The Bmain was made more interesting with a side bet made by the top 3. Tiny (Me) started on the pole with Nospoom and Chris Lim close in tow. It was close and tight until I made a mistake and Bicycled going into the Orca Square... Tapped the brake and spun out of Nospoom’s way. Spoom never looked back driving calm and fast taking his Yokomo BD7 to a B main win punching his ticket into the A main followed by Chris with his 3 wheel drive Awesomatix and a great drive by Mark Frauley from Castlegar, BC. The A main started with Jake Danielcheck on the pole with Mike Malkinson both with Awesomatix Chassis followed by Tim Copp from California with his Xray T4’16. The tone sounded and Jake never looked back taking a tone to tone win in style. Behind him was a different story of comers and goers… Mike tapped droping him to 5th at one point while some aggressive passing took its toll on Tim. Nospoom shocked us all and came through the field for his 10th place start to claim the Second place spot. Second to 5th crossed the line separated by 4 seconds. Everyone would have had a shot had Jake not put on his stellar performance.

R/C Pit Stop Big Block Scale Spec. This is our adaptation of the Seattle R/C Racers Scale Spec class with a little of the WCICS Canadian Trans Am class with a USGT Twist. 21.5 touring cars with any Scale body other than a touring car and either VTA “Pillows”, X-paterns or Gravity R/C USGT tires. With Dave Lima claiming his ticket to the A main from the B we filled out our 10 car Final. John Tsang put his VBC on the pole followed by American drivers Jacob Reyes with his Tamiya followed by Dick Reece with his ARC chassis. The tone sounded and JT never looked back followed by Jacob and Dick until lap 8 when Jacob fell back to 5th. Jacob worked his way back and was challenging Dick for the second position wen he ran out of time with the buzzer sounding with him in the 3rd position. Filling out the top 5 were Justin Gilkison and Brandon Rogers.

Apex R/C Pro Shop / Pro Spec North America World GT 10.5. With Dalyn and Terry taking the bump spots from the B the A main was going to be an epic battle. Starting on the pole was the Slapmaster himself Brian Bodine with his CRC car followed by local speedster Korgae Scales and Craig Roberts from Victoria both also with the CRC World GT chassis. The tone sounded with a freight train making their way through the sweeper. Then I heard it, the sound of teeth coming off a spur gear at the far end of the track. Our second place car slowly rolled out of the way allowing the field to continue to fight to try to catch Brian. Craig made his way by Brian and lead for 10 laps when a bobble cost him the lead and handed it back to the Slapmaster. The race finished with Brian out front followed by Craig and a battle for third with Gherasim taking third followed by Jamie Surry from Nanaimo.

Gripworksrc.com Formula 1. With Steve Chickloski taking the bump spot form the B Main the 10 car A main was set. Starting on the pole was Gripworks R/C owner Alex Pate sporting his VBC F1 followed by Rob Sorjonen with his Xray and Ed Mardones with his Street Jam. The tone sounds and Alex checks out never to look back. At the tone Ed has a traction problem and hooks into the outside wall damaging his car, allowing Chris Lim to take advantage into third spot. Rob and Chris were having a great battle and were tied up by both running into traffic which Alex had already cleared. The race finished with only 6 drivers on the track with Alex leading the way followed by Rob, Chris, Dave Lima, Rod Hall and Steve Chickloski from his earned bump spot.

Xpert R/C 1/12th Modified. A full 10 car field of rocket ships takes to the track lead by Brian Bodine form Seattle, Blake Bell from Victoria and Todd Mason of the Seattle R/C racers. The tone sounds and Brian and Blake are at each other again, just like a continuation of the Stock main. Brian leads the first 16 laps when Blake makes his way by with Brian in hot pursuit. In 16 minutes of racing each other I saw them come together once door to door. Blake spun Brian waited, the amount of sportsmanship between these guys is off the chart. With watching them go at it I’m not too sure how he did it but local boy John Tsang piloted his missile from 5th to 3rd place closely followed by Craig Roberts from Victoria. Todd had a problem and had to pull off. Brian continued on Blake’s bumper until the 47th and final lap when the raced down the straightaway to a finish that couldn’t be called by eye. In the end Brian pulled off the last lap pass to take the win by 0.11 seconds. I can’t wait for the Victoria WCICS race for the rematches between these two.

Options-rc.com Touring Modified. Overgeared board member Owen Ren took the bump position from the B main. Taking pole position is ROAR National Champion Kody Knudtsen with his ARC R10 chassis followed by Jake Danielchek with his Awesomatix and Blake Bell with his Xray T4’16. From the sound of the tone the Kung Fu Panda left them in his wake. Starting close to the line our scoring didn’t start counting till his second lap but we knew who the leader was. Kody proceded to lead from tone to tone. Jake held down second for about half the race until 1 small tap let Blake and his Xray T4’16 by into second place. Jake continued on mistake free but just couldn’t catch Blake. Fourth went to Korgae Scales with his maiden race on his Awesomatix A800 followed closely by Keith Yu and his Yokomo BD7’15.

Once again thank you to our sponsors, please take a minute and check out their websites and Facebook pages.
