PDX Mini Z Spring HFAY series points update. Note: No laps or times are posted as this would give other clubs nationally an unfair advantage seeing our times. A full list of laps and times will be posted early April. To see where you stand through February, go to How Fast Are You?

Points are really close for both Stock and Mod. Presently with 2 drops, Mo leads the Stock, and Bob leads the Mod.

Next racing April 3rd for regular club racing and then HFAY again April 17th. Both at Roundtable Pizza Barbur. See you soon.

Racing again next Monday, May 1 at Roundtable Pizza Barbur. If you've been wondering what Mini Z is all about or want to get your car set up, come join us next Monday as its our regular club night and we'll have a number of heats for stock, mod and a club favorite 50/50's. This is a better setting than our HFAY nights for your first visit as the HFAY schedule is pretty rigid those nights. Hope to see you then. Set up at 5:30, racing soon after.

HFAY national points just updated including April. Check it out. How Fast Are You?

Bob pulling in 11th with his mod HFAY spec car and Ty roping in 14th with a stock kyosho, Andrew jumping up a couple notches with his mod HFAY spec, coming to within 1 point of Ty and tied for 15th nationally, Blaine suffering from a bad run drops to 18th, Ken at 22nd and Kevin 24th. Not bad out of 56 starters. One more event to make our last moves. See you then.

PDX Mini Z has BIG news.

As many know, we have been racing at Roundtable Pizza Barbur for about a year now, and it’s great, but we are limited to the size of track due to space and limited by their open hours, only until 10pm.

The Big News is, we have secured an indoor location with a large 30’ x 80’ space, to do a one night large track event on Monday, June 19th, from 5pm to 11pm. That’s 6 hours of racing potential.

This is HUGE: 1) the space allows us to do about any track we have pieces for, and we have lots. 2) We have 6 whole hours for setup, tear down and tons of racing time. 3) It’s only 15 minutes from downtown Portland. 4) We have an option to rent the space a couple more times, once in July and one in August if things work out this first time. and 5) it's in doors, so no matter what our June weather looks like, we can race.

So, mark your calendar. Dust off your car, or buy a car. Go to our website and check out what you need to get started. PDX Mini Z Racing or check out our FB.

As club participants, we all have stock cars with a few upgrades to make the stock cars really raceable, then some also have modified cars. No car? Come check things out, try out our club car (qty1), or find a friend and borrow one. Want to get going on your own; we’ve got one brand new stock car in the box, and a number of upgrades to get you race ready and competitive.

There is a cost to rent this large space, but we have it covered this first night. If you want to donate to the club to help with costs, great. If not, come out for a fun night of racing with no entry fees, just fun.

More info to follow, but first, remember, normal club racing this coming Monday, June 5th, at Roundtable Pizza Barbur. Set up at 5:30 racing til 9:30. This is normal club night, no HFAY. Again, no entry fees, besides buying your dinner there at Roundtable if you want to. We will be discussing our summer schedule, track setup and more. Oh ya, and racing, pure head to head, fun, fast, and inexpensive.

See you Monday.

Ty

It’s almost here. Our biggest track ever. Next Monday night, June 19th, our big event.

We will be at PDX Sports Center, 8785 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. Portland, OR 97225, (503) 297-4145

We have the space from 5pm to 11pm. Set up begins right at 5 and racing as soon as we are set up. They have some tables and chairs, but if you have a small fold up table or chair, bring it, as well as an extension cord or two. This is a new venue for us, so I’m sure we will learn a thing or two our first time.

PDX Sports Center is just 15 minutes west of Downtown PDX, and only 30 minutes from most other areas… besides traffic.

For a tour, click here: Facility Tour - PDX SportsCenter We will have the turf field in the first column, second row of pictures.

The space is 30 x 80… which is huge. And to kick off the summer, we’ll do a large PDX. see below.

They do have limited food items there. They would prefer we order meals from them, but we can order delivery.

One club car is available for use that night, as well as one new in box car available for purchase.

See you next week. Ty

Hello Ty and Portland PDX!

I would love to join you sometime this summer, and this Monday might by a possiblity. Unfortunately I am a huge mini Z fan that lives about 4 hours away in SE Washington (Tri-Cities area). A friend and I race fairly regularly on various home-made floor tile tracks, but we are far from experts. We recently got a lapcounter, and the most we have ever had racing was four people, but they were just borrowing our extra cars, which brings me to the questions:

1.) I have 3 MR3 Sports or Sports2 models. None of them are completely stock. The closest one has bearings, T-plate, tires, and and oil shock. The other 2 are running some alloy parts, aftermarket diffs, disc dampers, PN 70 turn Stock motors. Radios are all stock. Can I use my cars or do they fall in-between your stock and modified classes?

2.) I have Robotronic compatible transponders (Easylap brand). I would rather not buy your $35 transponder for one race (I am too far away to be a regular participant unfortunately) Do you have any available to rent or borrow?

Thanks, I've been reading about your group for awhile, and it sounds like you guys have a lot of fun. Hopefully I can road trip down for a race at some point.

Paul

Hey Paul, We'd love to have you any time, but we understand due to the distance.

Our focus in our club is to keep this hobby inexpensive, fun, and competitive, as well as not limiting folks who want to go all in. We all started with the MR03 cars and had a blast. Then some added 2nd and 3rd cars with mods. And we also branched out, competing in the national HFAY series, visit How Fast Are You?, which has it's own set of rules.

We've recently set 3 basic classes to keep things simple for us, while allowing flexibility for the drivers. We are still setting the complete guidelines, and check our website for updates, PDX Mini Z Racing, but they are:

1) Near Box Stock: A stock car with a few modifications to make them raceable, while keeping it inexpensive, fun, and competitive. Base rule is minimal change, but do change some things. We'll have a complete list up soon, but you are on the right track with your Near Box Stock. Besides how super fun and fast these are, it also provides an on ramp for newbies, while also keeps our club having similar cars. Close racing is where it's at. So one of our first rules is you must have a NBS car before a mod, because if there aren't enough cars to run a mod class, we can still race our NBS cars. If one guy shows up with a mod car... he won't enjoy doing laps around the rest all night.

2) Modified: This class will be the cars that fit the HFAY guidelines. See website for that info. You are on track for this with your other cars.

3) Open: No Car Rules. However, any car from a lower class will be able to compete with a faster class, but in the races, the faster classes won't compete in the lower class. And that means you won't be able to run an Open car in the HFAY races either, but when we have large tracks, these will be fun to rip around the track and lay downs some fast times.

Regarding radio, most of our NBS group has kept the stock radio, and we've opened it up to allow different radios as we've not seen a huge difference in the drivability of the car. It's really the driver in this class.

And transponders? We have a few among us. We'll figure something out if you make it down.

Hope to see you sometime, or keep adding to your group up there.
