Default West Seattle Slash Track

West Seattle Slash Track

Hi folks,

As some of you may know there is a slash track located under the west side of the Spokane Street Bridge, off of West Marginal Way in West Seattle. Here is the rundown.
The track is located under a power line “right of way” adjacent to the Spokane Street Bridge on the West Duwamish waterway just off of West Marginal Way. There is plenty covered public parking under the bridge itself. There is no address I know of so here are the GPS coordinates.
47. 34’17.80 N 122.21’22.00 W

The beginnings of the track began last summer after the Interbay track was shut down. The track itself is mostly flat (for now) with a dirt groove set in a grassy field. There are concrete eco blocks that act as permanent driver stands on one side of the perimeter. There is no power or water at this location. The surface is hard compact dirt with a fair amount of rock content. I use a leaf rake mostly to clean the track of small rocks before taking a run.
The track has been in use for almost a year now with no apparent complaints from neighboring business or any other source that I am aware of. There is little noise concern as well. The few track cones that exist have not been disturbed by anyone so far. I have been cleaning up trash and debris when I visit to keep up appearances.
So far, so good.

Here are a few things to keep in mind if you come down and drive:

PLEASE DO NOT DIG! The course is over underground utility services.
PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE ANYTHING INTO THE GROUND; stakes, track barriers, wood planks. Grounds crews need to mow occasionally and they won’t be happy with obstacles in the ground. That goes for track piping as well.
PLEASE DO NOT MOVE DIRT AROUND.
PLEASE DO NOT EXPAND THE TRACK. There is enough to keep up on maintenance wise as it is.
PLEASE DO NOT MOVE/THROW ROCKS TO THE EAST INTO THE GRASS.

PLEASE HELP PICK UP TRASH ON THE TRACK, IF POSSIBLE.
PLEASE PUT ROCKS TO THE WEST, ACROSS THE ROAD NEAR THE TRAIN TRACKS.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, “LOW IMPACT”

If usage is good this summer and no complaints arise, I would like to add a couple more dirt jumps. I have temporary wood jumps. I keep them offsite for now. If people would like to use them, let me know. Again, this is not a groomed “pro” track, but it is free and open for anyone 24/7.

There you have it folks. Thanks and see you at the track.

Tracy
