Hey folks!

The 2019 TCS Registration is now open! Register here: https://www.tamiyausa.com/tcs/schedule/.

A couple reminders:
The TCS race will be held at the Galaxy Hobby parking lot that we've been racing at for years, and will be supported by Tamiya with shirts and prizes. So you won't need to find a new location.

Since Galaxy Hobby will be closed, parts support will not be available on site. Bring spares.

Similarly, Galaxy's bathrooms will not be available, but Safeway is right there.

If you have not already done so, be sure to take a look at the updated TCS rules—we don't want anybody getting DQ'd over a motor or tires, and there are lots of changes this year: https://www.tamiyausa.com/tcs/rules/.. If your car doesn't meet the tech requirements, you will not be allowed to race, and just because your car was legal last year does NOT mean it will be legal this year.

We look forward to welcoming everyone for what is most likely the last parking lot race in Lynnwood!

Hi everyone!

Since it has been two weeks since we last raced and chatted we wanted to get an update out on where we currently stand for keeping RC Racing in the Lynnwood area.

First and foremost, here's what's happened over the last two weeks:
  • Two weeks ago the 501.c.3 non-profit, I.S.S., officially purchased all of the race equipment from Mike at Galaxy Hobbies.
  • Insurance has been secured and once we have a firm location, the required additional insurance form can be filed which should meet any location requirements.
  • Collin cleaned out his garage and got all of the gear moved from Galaxy over to his house, where it will live between racedays for the time being.
  • Collin has had some excellent conversations and meetings with officials from the Edmonds School District, Sound Transit, and with Edmonds Community College about using their property for racing. He's also reached out to Northshore and Mukilteo School Districts in order to could keep options open for locations.
Yesterday, Collin, Russ, and I went over to a parking lot suggested by the facilities manager of Edmonds School District. The lot we looked at is slightly larger than what we've had at Galaxy Hobbies, has a porta potty, power close enough to run race central, and has several serviceable food options within walking distance. The asphalt has one rough patch that is easily avoidable and the rest is good. There is a minimal grade, multiple options for placing the driver stand and tent, and plenty of space to pit. Generators should be OK as well. It will need a few runs of the blower and sweeper to reduce the dust and pebbles but nothing worse than the start of the season at Galaxy.

After playing around for about an hour with several different car types, all of us agreed that it could be a new home, at least for the end of this summer. We were hoping that the surface might be good for 1/12 since it's surprisingly flat, but the surface is too rough and we've determined that foam tires would not survive any real time going fast, so we won't see any 1/12 racing here. Collin let the facilities manager know last night that we would like to use, it and is hoping to hear back from her today try to lock down some dates for racing in August. We'll provide more details once we have the site secured.

Things that we still need:
  • We still need to choose a name for the club and if you have a suggestion please let us know! Suggestions thus far are Galaxy RC Racing (a nice homage to our roots), TNL Raceway, and Step Up Racing.
  • A solid plan to get the stuff from Collin's garage to the track and back. We'll be relying on volunteers to help with loading and unloading, in addition to the regular trackside support for setup and teardown.
  • Updating the drivers stand to have stairs and also a safety rail.
  • Some additional safety updates. Nobody wants to see anybody get hurt and this includes protecting any spectators that happen by.
  • Possibly some repairs or adjustments to the bridge as Collin noticed that some cracks have formed in the upper structure.
Keep your eyes peeled as well. In the coming weeks we'll be getting our social media game together. Specifically, once we have a name and logo we'll get going with some new channels of communication including a new thread here at RCTech, twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Our goal is to make sure we're getting the word out as much as possible through as many channels as we can.

As one last reminder, TCS is still on and running in the Galaxy Hobby Parking lot on Sunday, July 21st. Remember to pre-register so you can get a t-shirt and so we have a good idea of how many entries to expect. You can do so at https://www.rccarevents.com/event.cfm?id=2720. You have until 7/16 to get signed up.

Some great news is that Mike managed to get the property owner to agree to let us run power to run the tent from the store and have access to the store bathrooms assuming that construction has not yet started for a new tenant.

Don't forget to consult the TCS rules as there are many changes from last year. This PDF file is the official ruleset and is updated more often than website. Don't get DQ'd because you didn't read the rules! https://www.tamiyausa.com/media/files/2019-tcs-rules-962-9a47.pdf

I hope you all had a great weekend and should you have any questions please just let us know! You can reply here, or reach out to Collin, the President of ISS at [email protected]

And we officially have a spot booked to finish out the summer! I will let Joshua post the specifics after we chat, probably tomorrow, but I will say that we are at the spot we tested on Sunday and it is only about two miles away from the Galaxy Hobby lot!

Default we have a location!

Hi everyone! Here’s an update for you about racing in Lynnwood:

First of all and most exciting we have locked down a location to finish out the season! August 4th & August 18th, the same days as was originally scheduled for Galaxy Hobby, we will host races at the north parking lot of Edmonds-Woodway High School. This lot is just off of 212th next to the softball field and only about 2-miles away from Galaxy Hobby. The South end of the lot, closest to the stadium, will be used for the track while the area closer to 212th and the softball field can be used for parking and pit spaces. The schools address is 7600 212th St SW, Edmonds, WA 98026. There is an image attached for your reference.

The area that we have for track space is just a bit larger than what we enjoyed at Galaxy, and we think we will have a bit more in the way of layout options. We took an assortment of cars out to see how it feels unprepared and it is smooth enough for everything we have historically run at Galaxy Hobby, but we do need to take a couple runs over it with a blower and the sweeper and try it with some soda. The cars that we tested which included GT, Mini, Euro Truck, and F1 all dealt with the rough patch with no issues. We hoped that we might be able to bring 1/12th scale to Lynnwood, but the surface is just too rough for foam tires. There is one rough patch that we can either drive over or work around.

There is a port-a-potty for us to use right between the track and pit area, right by that building on the map that is just off the track. There is accessible power that we can tap to run the loop and the track laptop, but you’ll need to provide your own power for field charging.

There are several food options within easy walking distance, including Burger King, Dairy Queen, Romeo’s Pizza and Pasta, and a 7-11. Also within driving distance is Dick’s, Jack in the Box, Kafé Neo, McDonald's, and WinCo Grocery. We also have permission to block off the lot with signs and/or cones the night before to help ensure that nobody parks in the lot.

This location will get us through the rest of this year at the very least. We may also have the opportunity to add another day in September if the weather is looking decent. If things work out we should have no issues using this location next year, though we are keeping our eyes peeled for any better locations (we checked out several that we liked a bit more but that were missing some critical elements like bathroom access or that were just unavailable). Now that we are officially in with the district it makes some things easier for finding and booking other locations if needed.

Here’s what we’re still working on:

· Finding the best way to transport all the gear from point A to point B and back (Collin bought a trailer to help with this, but we still need to coordinate the labor to load/unload everything each raceday)
· Finalizing the club name… THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO PROVIDE INPUT. If you have any ideas, let us know here or by emailing us at [email protected]
· Once we have a name it will be time for a logo and setting up some social media pages, and a new rctech thread for the new club, so we can stay in touch easier
· Updating the drivers stand to be safer, including adding stairs and rails
· Doing some testing to make sure everything is working
· Minor fixes to the bridge

Reminder that TCS is coming up quick on July 21st and you need to register before July 16th (https://www.rccarevents.com/event.cfm?id=2720). TCS will still be held where we normally raced out in front of the former home of Galaxy Hobby.

I also want to take a moment and say a HUGE thank you to Collin, and ISS, who have really stepped up and made this happen. Without Collin's diligent efforts there's a really good chance we wouldn't see any more racing in Lynnwood this year, if ever. So next time you see him give him a handshake, hug, or pat on the butt.

If you have any questions, would like to get more involved, or anything at all, feel free to reach Collin by email at [email protected]

Sorry for the double post, but word just came down that the club name has been finalized!

I've started a new thread to accommodate Galaxy RC Racers here: Galaxy RC Racers - Lynnwood, WA

Thanks Joshua.

There is still plenty to do to make sure the program is successful. It's going to take time and work but I think this community can do it and I know I am looking forward to helping it happen.

Just a reminder that this Sunday 7/21 is the annual TCS Regional race event. This event is located in the former parking lot of Galaxy Hobby, next to Hobby Lobby off of 196th and Highway 99 in Lynnwood. It is NOT at the new location at Edmonds Woodway High. Racing will resume at the new location on 8/4... keep an eye on the Galaxy RC Racers thread or the Facebook page for more info on upcoming race days after TCS.

There is no race fee to participate in the TCS regional race, but if you are in need of a transponder the rental fee is $10.

Registration has closed, but if you forgot to register, you can still come out and join us, you just won't get a t-shirt for participating.

As a reminder, you must be following the full Tamiya rules, so be sure to watch what cars and parts you are using as we will be checking for each class. You can review the rules here: https://www.tamiyausa.com/tcs/rules/ (make sure to look at the PDF, which is the most current rule set).

Also as a special note from Tamiya that we were sent today regarding Euro Trucks, it is not legal to block/cover the wheel rims. Apparently, some folks have been trying that at other locations.

Hope to see many of you there!

ah, great question.

we are aiming to have driver’s meeting at 11, so the goal is to follow the same schedule as typical club races. We’ll be out there early to setup, and as soon as we have a track we’ll open it for practice.
