There is a Facebook page where workparty info is usually posted. Probably the best place to join and stay in touch. Go to Facebook and search for North Seatac RC Park. ( I don't have enough posts here to post a link. haha)

If you were at the track on Sunday 7/19 mid-day and left something behind, email me what it is that you left behind, I have it for you! ([email protected]) One of those things that if I left sitting there hoping you would return for it, it surely would have been stolen in very short order. I will post this on the FB page as well.

I haven't been to the track for over a year, but wow have you guys made some fantastic changes!! The track is dusty of course, but it is well built and a blast to drive! The on-road section is coming along nicely too, thanks for your hard work guys!

It's like pushing a string, Kyle. Marshaling resources, hurrying up, and then waiting...

I feel like I've put it out there a hundred times that something is happening only to have to wait. How many times can I do that before everyone just thinks I'm full of it.

Please understand that the planning and permitting that happens behind the scenes takes time, and I've laid out my own money to move that process along. And some key contributions from certain guys (Tracy Slatten our awesome draftsman among them) on their own time carved out from life have been huge. You'll understand, I hope, if I have chosen to wait for the occasional freebie from the parks department. If I could just hire guys to do it, we would be done, but when it's a question of waiting for manpower to free up to move the project along the critical path, then I have.

But, the resources are being marshaled, I continue to work out with the parks department who is doing what when, and things are getting done. Like with the offroad track, we will be raising the roof on the drivers stand later this summer. I don't have dates, yet. For those of us who helped with the drivers stand on the offroad track (including my mom and dad who came over for the day), we'll raise the timbers and frame the joists, and the parks guys will complete the roof on their time. As before, we will probably be splitting costs of materials.

I'm working on a deal to get the land cleared and graded this summer/fall.

The onroad track was always going to be the "hard one," and the offroad track wasn't exactly a doodle. But it's come along magnificently now that it has taken root and there is a crew in the local community building it up and making it better. It's really turned out to be a great thing, with many people to give credit to. It's happening.

Whoever own the Facebook group for the North SeaTac RC track, can you please accept my member request (from Michael Eric Thorson). I would have joined the group sooner if I knew it was out there.

I am trying to help find an owner of something lost at the track.

Thanks!!

Since Area52 RC is closed this year, I lost my favorite 1/8 scale track so I brought my 1/8 buggy to see how it would handle the SeaTac track for a few laps since I was there anyway. What I was really impressed with:
  • The dirt has improved dramatically since last year. The track is pretty dang smooth for an outdoor track on public land.
  • The corners and berms are great!
  • The jumps are shaped really nice, and the carpet gives you tons of traction you aren't expecting (and thank god nobody has stolen the carpet this time).
  • The tunnel jump is a neat little addition, make sure you are lined up well for it though!

It is definitely better if you are there with someone watering the track. It is dusty (as should be expected) and really loose which is deceiving with the amount of traction on the jumps. I think it is best suited for short course trucks, it is perfect for them and is probably the lion's share of folks that come to the track. Running my 1/8 scale TRF buggy with a 2050kv motor on 4s power, I had a great time, but definitely had to mellow out and slow down to go faster. If I wall the gas on any jump which is an inherent reaction in the loose dusty conditions, as soon as you hit that carpet, you were off and landing in a different zip code. I do kind of miss the long front stretch, it was a good passing spot and let the faster cars stretch their legs a little.

Anyway, you can't ask for much more from a free RC park to go play at. The boys have done an awesome job!

Default Finally Progress

Time to share some updates.

The drivers stand is underway, the perimeter drainage is dug and rocked, and the track area is cleared and rough graded.

I encourage you all to have a look for yourself.

Pictures attached.

Wow, that looks really good. What's the dimensions you're shooting for for raceable track?

It's coming along great Todd. Looks like next summer for some on-road racing there. This whole RC park is really taking shape. We are working hard on the off-road side too, really want to get that gate moved so there is more parking in the area and people are not running across the road. If there's anything we can do the help out let me know. Thanks for all the work making this happen.

Well, there's the plan, the permit, and then the as-built reality. The perimeter drain is in, so I need to take my long tape out to re-measure. But, it's in the neighborhood of 130 ft. by 90 ft.

It is coming along, isn't it? There were six or seven people running on the offroad track today at lunch when I was there. There is a plan to move the gate. There's a plan for everything. It happens eventually

Is that accounting for the changing room, where on-road racers will go to change undies after running on a track that size?

SSHD is how Todd rolls
I'm getting giddy.
