If you believe the forecasters we won't be getting out of this pattern until Sunday. Seems like all we can do for now is continue to get plans worked out for the stand and be ready when the weather breaks.

I just got off the phone with the parks maintenance chief. He called to ask whether I was planning to come down--I was--and told me not to bother. It's a mucky mess and there's no way I could be productive, even with the tracked 'cat.
Sigh...
So, it's the Junuary Blues.

Park director is right. I sank up to my ankle doing the above. We can't work on it to the second day of no rain.

Auh nice to be clean. Todd check pm. Otherwise what I noticed is the amount of new dirt would only give us a light covering with not enough to fill jumps.
So suggest we buy sandbags and use the leftover original dirt pile to fill said bags. Will help jumps/tables keep shape longer and with future track rebuilds wont mix the dirts as much reshaping.
Either way we need the base height variations before putting down all of new dirt.

Any plans to do some work this weekend like Sunday? I may be able to get down there and lend a hand.

While we're coolin our jets waiting out the weather I started wondering if there has been decisions to what we'll be racing down here. Fathers day is right around the corner and I've been thinking about a 1/10 sc truck. Already have a 1/8 buggy. These seem like reasonable classes to run on a track this size. Along with others too.
Also, the boredom got to me the other day so I sketched out some track layouts. These are no where near as nice as the one Tracy did up a few pages back and I don't want to step on any toes but I couldn't resist the temptation. I based mine on a 140 x 60 foot print so I think it would need to be trimmed back to fit the 130 foot print that Todd stated. I kept the lane width between 10 - 12 feet so fits ROAR specks. I didn't add in features, I figured we can hash that out on site. Personally don't really care to much about track layout I just can't wait to get a track up and running; like I said I was bored.
I've got fairly thick skin so feel free to skewer the track designs I won't take in personally.

Here is a current proposed dwg of the stand...and a noodle of the thrid track in the example post. Jeff, shows double stairs from the side, Kody shows a single stair to the back. Which one please?
Coming off the back of the stair to go around to get your car, when you are alone can become tiresome for the beginners...
I will start a detail dwg of the deck too, Give me a couple of hours, maybe later today I can post a dwg of such a large structure. I will include a swing set off the side and a fire pole or slide to get down fast.

Any thought given to building some of the features out of wood, it would make track changes simpler and quicker and require less dirt to be imported. I like layout number one for the average racer/bashers, number 2 could be awesome for advanced guys.

Edit: Tracy not sure will get to your drawing today.

guess its a good thing I drove by Sumner High School last night and saw a huge pipe of of the stuff all balled up and waiting to get replaced....

Here is a concept dwg of the stand, as has been suggested. I have put a typical heavy duty framing under the deck surface.
Some thoughts in no patricular order,
6x6 and 6x10 posts and beams are very heavy duty and solid, however smaller material may be used for some of the components to save cost by a little.
Entering and exiting to the sides east/west is shorter than north/south.
From Jeff's design I would move the front stair to the back and mirror them in an East/West fashion. The scoring booth would have less obstruction to the track from the window.
With the structure height and size, piers may not be an option. We need to determine this detail.
I have abbreviated the dwg for simplicity in certain parts...
This size of project may require a "pro" framer to assure sqaureness. Someone who frame decks or houses for a living. Not saying it is above of the skills of the club, but I would consider it for the deck frame part. 2-3 days of time for this..
I drew the deck 8" wide so we weren't just cutting a bunch of 8' material down to 6'. Most of the boards will be 8' minimum so lets use the footage.
Todd, folks, anything glaring I need to change, sing out. I'm sure there will be changes...

Thanks for the work on the visual, Tracy.
One, with the stairs off the side, are you imagining that we on/off by walking on the drain basin gravel? Kody had stairs off the back of his, which puts us on/off in the grass behind the drain basin. I favor that scenario.
Two, you show four feet to the deck. On this part of the spec I'm sure the city will have some input. But, what do you think of 5', or even 6' to the deck? I know that's tall, but we are on the down side of the site, looking up. I'd guess there's at least 4' of fall between the top of the track and the drivers stand footing. Maybe more. Do you think we can nudge it up a little higher?
If you can show me those two things, I will get it to the city ASAP for feedback.
