Until the boundaries of the track are established I'm not sure there is much more I want to try and do. Could just be a waste of time and effort. I don't know any of the people in charge that you mentioned so hopefully they are checking in on the thread and will be able to show up tomorrow.

I printed out the PDF drawing of the track layout. Looks like it was set at 120' by 58'. I think we may be able to get a start on it with this. You mentioned it had grown a bit so maybe we could find out how much and get a starting point to lay the boundaries from.

I will plan on being there around 10 tomorrow also. I'll bring a wheel barrow and so rakes and shovels along.

Nice work today. Thanks for getting out there.

So, I was not able to get out this week, and this weekend looks to be shot for me, but right now I'm going to put down Monday for a work day, including Bobcat time. I will get the remainder of the dirt spread around the west side and below the drain basin.

As for staking out the track area, let's hold off just a tiny bit more until a decision is made on the dirt. Plus, I'm trying to get a stump grinder in to take out the stumps close to the street.

As it turns out, the park actually has both a hand roller and a big driving roller. When it comes time to flatten out the lanes, we will have both at our disposal.

I work Monday thru Thursday on a 4 - 10 shift so that's not in the cards for me. I can do next Friday assuming nothing else comes up family wise. But for now I will hold off on any more work this weekend.
If I've got the energy left after work I may stop by one evening just to see how things are moving along.
I don't have any contacts for dirt but I know we need a good quality for the top layer. Anyone tried Craigslist? Maybe we could get lucky. Just a thought.
Was hoping someone would be able to get a stump grinder. Those things need to go.

Yea, I can't help this Monday as well. Have an appointment to mid afternoon.

Edit: Just a thought, do most of us all have google accounts? We could make a google calendar with days people are thinking of and when people have available.

So good to know there will be some young backs out there. Going to be a fair amount of manual labor as this things starts coming together.

Think we're still waiting to get the dirt situation resolved. I will be available on Friday afternoon and again this weekend at various times.

Well, I've pulled the trigger on some top layer.

We'll be taking delivery of three truck and transfer loads (approx. 70 yards) of sifted, high clay content dirt tomorrow. It's coming from Lloyd Enterprises in Federal Way. They do a lot of business with the city. We looked at three different samples from that yard, including the moto mix from the Supercross, and this is the mix that seems best. It's not the moto, as it turns out, but another. The moto mix had too much sand and chewed up asphalt, ours does not.

I am confident we are getting a good mix, though if it turns out badly, I guess it's on me. As it inevitably gets turned over and mixed in with the base we brought in, I think it will be really good over time, as well. What we have down now does have some rocks, but the soil itself is outstanding. I've been out to the site recently, including yesterday, and it really holds moisture well and packs down firmly. I've done my best to give us a long term good mix. Hopefully, it works out.

We have faith in you Todd. Of course, we also have a guillotine set aside just in case.

Work party Thursday anyone?

Work Party
Thursday 10am

I'll be there with the Bobcat to move some dirt and prep for the track build. I want to get the rest of the west side pit area smoothed out.

Hey Todd,

Depending on what you get done with the bobcat tomorrow, I can take the ball on Friday and keep pushing forward with the work. Just let me know what specifically to do and I'll see what I can do.
Weather forecast looks like crap for the next few days but will just have to suck it up I guess.

I just got off the phone with the parks maintenance chief. He called to ask whether I was planning to come down--I was--and told me not to bother. It's a mucky mess and there's no way I could be productive, even with the tracked 'cat.

Sigh...

So, it's the Junuary Blues.
