Todd, I will be the first to admit that I was really skeptical about the the whole Seatac program becoming a reality. After seeing the ground breaking work that has started, you have made a believer out of me. This is really exciting stuff and for what it's worth, I tip my hat to you and the others for your determination and hard work for making this project a dream come true. Great job gentlemen.

The offroad track is being built first. It's what we have the money to do. An onroad track is still very much in the plans.
Look for the Seattle RC Racers on Facebook and join the group. I will confess that I haven't used the Facebook page as much as I could. I'm personally hit and miss on Facebook in general. We do have other administrators for Facebook, however. Hopefully, they can take up the task.
The club also has a website: www.seattlercracers.com Right now, though, it is in Hangar 30 mode. As we add race programs, we will add to the website. For now, if you want updates, check here and also shoot me your email: [email protected]

Hi folks,
I spent a hour or so walking around the site after the clearing work. Looks good, flatter than i expected. Soft, dusty soil as it is now. The clearing looks about 150' east/west and about 100' north/south. It has the nicest surroundings for a track with a tree lined perimeter.
The next step (in my pea brain) would be to put in a temp "drive way" along the south tree line from the west road bed. Not just gravel, but large 3-4 inch rocks, to provide a solid footing to pull trucks and the like into and near the track site. It sounds like big rocks but when it gets wet this winter, they don't just mush down into the mud but remain stable with no puddles. (Unless Todd has other ideas or info)
The perimeter around the site could be thinned and groomed of black berries and debris right now to some extent, to define the edge and the view from the road.
Todd, are we in sit tight mode for now, or is there some general cleanup the the parks/city guys will let us do for the time being, before the weather turns?
I promise I won't bring the slash track guys down this weekend...

I am presently working with the parks department and the city's design staff on a drainage solution for the site. In fairly short order, within two weeks, I expect to see a silt fence along the south side of the cleared area. The city has agreed to pay for this. Our side of the deal was an additional outlay for a geotech consultation on the site. Mind, this is not coming out of the Seattle RC Racers club funds, but out of the money set aside by the city council to develop the site for RC race tracks.
It is a public park, and has not been barricaded. As such, anyone is welcome to go check it out. Please be careful as you walk around, as several holes were dug for percolation tests. I haven't been back down since Friday, so I don't know whether they are filled in. Please take care, if you go.
My plan, at this time, is to continue working with the city on the drainage solution. Once that design and installation is complete, the track design committee convened at our last club meeting, and chaired by Kody Knudtson, can start designing the actual track. It is likely that we will be importing track-appropriate dirt, which will overlay the current site. I cannot speak to the composition and depth of track dirt at this time. The track design committee will almost certainly have to work within drainage-related constraints. This is a city works project, and everything will be, as it has been so far, by the book.
I have secured some materials for the track itself, and will continue in my efforts to secure more. If anyone has a known good source for fill and dirt, please don't hesitate to shoot me a message at [email protected]
As for pit areas, onsite water and electric, drivers stand, etc. I can't say yet. I am working on drainage. The expectations for drainage will have an impact on all of those design details.
