Todd will be posting a club meeting recap, but I wanted to post about the TC spec tire as the season opener , April 22nd, approaches.
A Sweep 36 was chosen for Mod TC and Stock TC. Sold trackside at below retail. Note, For ONLY the month of April and May, if people have any left over Contact A34's ( last years spec tire ), they may be used. Again, ONLY for April and May race dates will last years spec tire be allowed.
As an aside, It is always difficult to choose a spec tire. I was a principle part in choosing it last year, as well as this year too, so I hope we got it right this time. Last season we tested and spec'd the Contact A34 but the shipped version was softer than the sets tested , so on warmer days the tire wasn't as good as we'd hope. It was good, but this year we hope this tire is better. I say, hope, because this year the weather has been too difficult to test anything, but going by last year, it was decided we'd try a 36 temperature range because there were more warmer race days than cooler ones. Sweep is a very good brand, with a nylon wheel, so the rim is durable. This particular Sweep configuration is known to be fast from reports in the area. In some places its the defacto spec tire but also offer some decent longevity. We have a unique track surface, so we'll see how well it works here, together, all running the same tire. I know I have my fair share of excuses for a poor race day, but tires shouldn't be one of them :-). If anyone wants to sling tomatoes if these tires aren't the "best", sling them squarely at me. Pray for some great weather and Let's go racing ! :-)

Kinda like rolling back distance for the elite level Golf pros, using a softer, shorter distance ball.
it might have been better to use a softer tire, like 32’s to inject a bit of driver finesse to circumvent overheating, same thing as going 5min as opposed to 6 and Sanyo nicad’s for spec battery.

but no foams, unless someone decides to have a race within a race like i did at FW when we ran sorex 40's with no compound or tire warmers, winner paid 100 second 75 and third 50.
then later i found out someone cheated and used compound lol

Club Meeting Follow-Up
Track Work
First off, thank you to the crew who showed up to spring clean the track: Mike, Mike, Mike, Jake, George, Stuart, and Branden. A long, cold winter has kept things from growing. I brought my mower, but there was nothing to cut. We raked all over, weeded, and moved rocks.
Left of the drivers stand is now open for tables and tents. On race days, I would like to reserve that space for our veteran racers who could use a break offloading from their car to their pit area. I'll add anyone who's nursing an injury with limited mobility. I won't name names, but the oldest active racer in the Northwest comes to mind, as do many of our friends on the far side of three-score years. In other words, if you're young and strong, respect your elders and carry your stuff to the far side.
Stuart power washed the berms and they look great. He was also able to power wash two of the islands. I thought we'd be repainting this year, but the wash brings most of the color back. It's overdue, but it's getting done now and will save us another year of the back breaking task of laying down paint. For those of us who were there, that is some fantastic news. Mike, Mike, and Stuart will return later this week to complete the island washing job. Thank them this summer for the effort.
We are adding permanent barriers to the two back islands. The design is set, and we have a work plan. The goal is to get it done before the first race.
Overall, the racing surface is holding up beautifully. We saw no additional root intrusion. We will NOT spray this year as the natural abrasive surface provides good traction in all conditions.
Club Meeting
After the work party, the crew retired to Round Table for pizza and hydration. We covered some important subjects.
We will race on spec tires for the 17.5 Super Stock and Modified Touring classes, specifically the Sweep EXX36 R3PX. We will sell sets track side for $35. Three of your fellow racers floated the expense for the club. After they are paid back, the balance goes to the club account. The Sweep tires are available from a number of online shops, as well. Racers may also use last year's spec tire, the Contact A34, through May.
Standard rule sets will prevail for all classes. Of particular note for this year, ROAR has realigned Touring race times with the international five-minute length. USGT will keep six-minute qualifiers but bump to eight-minute mains per the published rules. I will keep one important deviation in place: USGT racers may continue to use ROAR-approved 21.5 motors in addition to the Gravity USGT motor.
Based on last year's attendance, core classes are:
Modified Touring
17.5 Super Stock Touring
USGT
Novice
We will accommodate interest in other classes with a 3-car rule. At different times, we have seen Mini, Formula One, E-1/8th Open, and Modified 1/12th. There are options from the TCS sphere it would be fun to see. The TT01/2 Pro Spec class could be a great addition to the program. I would also like to see a revival of traditional USVTA. In general, if there is an interest to run an electric onroad class and at least three racers want to throw down, I'll make room in the program.
We will be on LiveRC this year. RC Scoring Pro has been good to us for over a decade, but it's clear the electric onroad world has migrated to LiveRC. It is where people go to find a program and results. Time to join the 2020's.

looks like the HPI tires will go back in a baggie and I'll be ordering some legal tires.
BTW I do have a extra carbon chassis for the IRIS if you're in need.

Pretty decent discussion of the PF tires here. RCTech redeeming itself. Some real world experience is called for, obviously, but it reads like a simple cleaning is the best bet for asphalt.

Greg, I ordered a Camaro body, not sure it’ll be here for next weekend, Tires should be here well before said body, Hopefully we can resurrect this class, They have a big following up north @ Nora, We traveled up there all winter, Maybe some of those guys will make the trek down.

BUT I will still use my old one (the one in the pic) despite the oppressive weight of the thing. Still plenty of life left in it. Maybe.

Which Camaro? I don't know where to get the old '68 (7494) anymore and I do not understand the extra bits in the replacement (118010). Looks like a separable backend like the Javelin, But I cant tell.

2023 Season Opener
Tomorrow's forecast is favorable, so I am looking forward to a great opening day of 2023 racing at North Seatac Park!
I plan to arrive in the 8 o'clock hour for setup. We will hold to the schedule of Q1 at 11.
