Don’t forget to avoid the weekend interstate I-5 repairs going Southbound just before Beacon Hill !
Best to take side streets before you get into downtown , or perhaps 99 ?

We arrived to a wet track and light rain. No lie, the 9 o'clock hour was looking dire. Several had chanced the drive down and were convinced the day was a bust, so they left. I get it. Don't waste a Saturday. But y'know. It's June. And I had a hunch we would be dry by noon.
And what do you know? For those who took the chance and stayed, we got in a full race day in beautiful sunny conditions. We started Q1 on a half-dry track and mostly dry racing line. By the end of the round it was all dry and we were full rip. We fielded a modest three heats, one each of USGT, Super Stock TC, and Formula One.
Tomorrow is a good day. Both Father's Day and Juneteenth. Plenty to think about and celebrate.
Next weekend is the Sizzler. And to the extent long range forecasts are anything to go by, it's looking good!

Glad we stuck around, even though we were having a good time trying to master the slip and slide it was much more fun to race!
Next time I will be sure to pack some backup tires so I can hopefully field a more competitive car. I put USGT tires on at the end and went .7 seconds faster! Argh.
Special thank to Todd and the crew who made it work, we hope to be back sometime soon.

Seattle RC Racers: Summer Sizzler at Seatac June 25th and 26th
Quals on Saturday, Mains on Sunday. TQ glasses awarded Saturday.
$40 "all you can eat" for entry fees. That will include dinner at Round Table.
Touring car tires are " spec'd" for "stock and mod TC this year, and purchased trackside ( look for the Awesomatix USA banner ).

For the sizzler : show up as early as you’d like, the track will be fairly clean from the previous days running and we’ll take 30 minutes at some point to blow it off again in the AM.
Just beware of I5 South repair work that is going on near the Columbia / West Seattle Bridge exit every weekend this summer. It gets narrowed to one lane causing a very significant backup.
bring generators or other power sources , the track has no available power sources for charging , etc. also bring a “pop up”/ tent, a table and a chair.

Hey Sizzler fans! I am asking for some brief help Sat at 8am, please pack a broom (like a witches broom) to help loosen the cottonwood seed from the perimeter as Jake and I blow. I was there last Monday and it's really bonded to the surface which is creating a neat little barrier of it's own trapping debris. Shouldn't be more than 5min of your time, and thank you!
I will be bringing the bbq grill back out. If you find yourself lazy and starving, hit me up for a hot dog! Lets have some fun!

Using careful RC racer math, we determined this was the 25th Annual Onroad Summer Sizzler. We may have to celebrate it twice, as we arrive at the number by subtracting 1997 from 2022, which of course works out but neglects the fact we missed two years ago for COVID. Nevertheless, it's a testament to the tradition's durability that it came back rather than fade away.
It was good and hot both days--the cool spring finally conceded and let go it's grip. Happily, the threat of warm temps did not discourage our Canadian friends from joining. Snow tires and all, they arrived jammed into Alex's van. One could tell they don't quite know what to do with the conditions, as Edmund was sporting ankle high muck boots with shorts. But no one looks north for up to date fashion statements. After all this time, it was simply a joy to see them again and get a race on in their company.
Speaking of racing, all four fields gave us exciting, competitive heats. We have refined our offers to the essentials for an outdoor asphalt program:: 17.5 Super Stock Touring, Modified Touring, USGT, and Formula One. USGT had an A and B main, the rest solid single heats. Saturday qualifying was four rounds, single fastest for the TQ. We often go qual points for outdoor, but given the consistent perfect conditions, there was no reason not to keep the tension high until the final round was complete. At the end, Stuart took Modified TC, Andy took USGT, Greg took Super Stock TC, and Brian took Formula One. We handed out the TQ shot glasses Saturday and went to dinner.
Sunday was Triple Mains for all. In USGT, Greg and Andy were locked in a nose to tail fight that was some of the finest we have seen. Andy prevailed but much respect was due to Greg whose efforts put a gleam of quality on the overall results. Jesse brought home a fine 3rd while sorting out a new car (a beautiful Tamiya 420 no less!). Mike Crosier barely missed out on the A, but he asserted himself in the B and won going away in all three heats.
In Super Stock Touring it was again Greg and Andy who were the class of the field, and again they gave us intense close racing. Andy again took the top spot, defending his titles from last year. Branden wanted a bit more, but he was all the same a solid third, which is a proud result.
In Formula One, the top spot was clearly Brian's, as he was done and gone in two. However, the 2-3 battle was anything but a gimme as Rich and Albert gave us a fantastic duel in A3. Rich claimed the runner-up, while Albert had to curse one particular dome that had his number all weekend--chin up Albert we've been there!
The final race came down to A3. Stuart was again defending a lead against a determined veteran, this time Jake. Honestly, Jake put a quality car on track all weekend. He was winning the bench game. But Stuart just has a sheer turn of speed that comes with fearless youth. Stuart took A1, but Jake came through in A2 with a convincing drive while Stuart was fighting a tweaky, out of sorts car. In A3, Jake had some bad luck at the start, which gifted Brian the two-spot and a chance to pressure Stuart into a mistake. But Stuart proved too quick and carved out a lead no one could close. So, another title defense for Stuart, and a hard effort all weekend. Alex redeemed the Canadian effort by taking home the third place cup.
Thank you to Jake and Brian for meticulously prepping the track. To Brian again for providing a grill, and to Von for Sunday's hot dogs. But most of all thank you to everyone who came out and raced the weekend. It's a great way to kick off summer in Seattle. We have a good season ahead of us!
