The comp committee is getting together this month to hash out rules updates. We are watching local and national races and are committed to trying our best to match trends while doing what's best for our club.
Right now, I'd say it's clear as mud which way to go on Stock TC. Many others have a firm conviction; I do not. Which is not to say it's complicated. It's basically either 17.5 or 21.5. The chorus on either side is loud and convinced.
Scale Spec seems a little more complicated. I think there is a growing consensus that open ROAR motor isn't working. Motor drama is not the winning formula for the class. There are some good, thoughtful ideas on the table, but that doesn't mean everyone will be down with what we choose.
It seems spec classes are perpetually torn between two ideas. On one side are those who see motor rules as a challenge to surmount by digging in and working with and around the spec to get the desired advantage. For them, figuring out the fast motor is part of the reward.
On the other side are those for whom motor rules serve as a check on excess expenditures of time and money on going fast. The specs ideally bring sanity and balance to racing (which some may snicker at as if it's a pipe dream to expect sanity in racing--fair enough!)
Neither is right or wrong, and we all tend to fall on one side or the other, very few precisely in the middle, in my experience.

Yes.. the motor game is a tough one..
A cheap ESC/Motor, Battery package would be something to even things out but would probably take the true budget, hand me down racer out of the class.. maybe, I don't know. I am talking in the perspective of needing some current gear for that class. I am planning on a HW/SMC package (HW XR10 PRO Stock Spec ESC/G3 $200ish and SMC True Spec Extreme 7.4V 6000mAh 190 Amps/150C $49.95).
If a SPEC motor is picked I would just say hopefully it's a decent one with support..
Nice work Todd!!!

Only problem with a spec motor is you are either going to buy a bunch for the club that you hope will last a really long time, or you're going to be changing it every year to two years because manufacturers don't produce the same motor for years and years like the Novak's. It's tough for sure.

Word to you all: the porta-potties are back. So for those spending long hours turning laps and burning packs, feel free to relieve yourselves in the comfy splendor of our very own roto-molded sanitary stations dedicated to your vacating pleasure.
They're locked. PM me for the combo. Keep it to yourself or face the dire karmic consequences.

As I stirred from my slumber this morning, I had no idea that today would be a Franko Day. Nevertheless, as might a sinner in the hand of an angry God, I will accept my lot with good cheer and do my best to fathom a hidden purpose.
I'm not sure how to respond to your question, Franko, as I do not recall codifying rules for fair conduct in the porta-potties. So, taking the shortest cut from here to there, I will say the rules are exactly the same as last year.
But then, as an initiate might pause when questioned by the master, "Is there more to this question? Does he teach by parable?" And so I ponder, is he being ironic? Franko the Ironist? I would not have thought to go there, yet here I am. Perhaps you make a point about rules and the means and nerve to enforce them?
If I were to say, "No rim squatting, as it is associated with more frequent dooking on the hinge!" But how to enforce such a rule, even if, in the eyes of all, it is a just rule serving the commonweal?
I thank you, Franko, for leaving me with much to consider.
