Sizzler
I just wanted to give a shout out to all who put on and attended the Summer Sizzler. I'm glad that the 30 plus year summer tradition is still going strong.
The weather forecast made it look like it may be a drizzler instead of a sizzler, but Todd never doubted that mother nature would shine on us, and we were treated to a couple great days of racing.
I thought the addition of the 40 plus Master's 13.5 class, or as Stuart would say, old man touring, was a great choice. Looked like the old men were having a good time. I'm tempted to jump in next year if the class reappears.
I really like the Spec Tire setup. $25 a day for tires works really well for my wallet. After breaking them in, I thought the tires raced well all day. Satisfied.
Lots of good racing in all classes. I enjoyed racing and watching.
I also continue to appreciate the great track the club put together. Butter smooth, good traction, and a full 18 fun layout configurations to play with.

Did anyone race both days on just one set of Team Powers 36r's. I guess that could be about 10 runs or so.
If not did you come close?
Lastly, is there anyway to tell what version tire you have. I have a brand new set of Team Powers tires and I have no clue as to what they are 🏁

Summer Sizzler 2017 Race Report
The 2017 Summer Sizzler closed out a tremendous run of races in the Pacific Northwest, extending from the IROCC summer race in early July, through the four-day RC Woodstock at Timezone, to TCS, the RRR trophy race and enduro, and finally the Sizzler. Plus we had a club race in there, as did most of the others. It has been a full summer of racing, and anyone would be hard pressed to find a higher quality of clubs and races to attend in such close geographic proximity. It is something to be grateful for.
As Korey, Brian and Brian, and others have noted, both on RCTech and Facebook, none of this happens, here or at the other clubs, without the support of volunteers—racers and their families. And on top of it, we also get generous support from companies that send us items for raffling or as prizes. I think it's appropriate to step back and be grateful for how well all of this works, and it is for the most part racers driving the effort, to organize ahead of time and get it done on race day. It's something we should all be proud of, and humbled by. I really value racing because it's far more than a “show up, take my money, now entertain me” activity. It takes work, and work is a good thing.
Saturday
Bright, hot, beautiful, and the racing was intense. The first race of the double-header was the bigger one by turnout. We attacked the layout that incorporates elements of the famous Tamiya track in Southern California, with it's backside 180, interior sweeper, and front straight. It is one of the great layout concepts, and it raced as well here as it does down there. The attached sheets show the final results. After calling the better part of the day's 47 heats, I will confess it is a bit hard to reconstruct the action in my head. There were good moments, frustrating moments, angry, happy, and sad, all day long. If you were there, you know what it was like. I will say the Stock Touring race got particularly chippy at the top, and Scale Spec was nose to tail in the midfield. I hope the guys in the thick of it all focus on the good experiences and do not dwell on the difficulties.
Sunday
Rain threatened in the morning, and the track took extra time to dry out from overnight showers. The combination of uncertain weather and fatigue from Saturday conspired to drive down attendance. But in the end we were delayed by not more than 30 minutes, and to be sure, we had nice competitive heats across the classes. So really, it was a nice day of racing, and once the track came in...I will say it was one of the finest days ever at Seatac RC Raceway. It was happy hour conditions, only for most of the day. Spec and modified, rubber tires and foam, our cars were hooked up and fast. Thanks to those who braved the uncertainty, I think you enjoyed some spectacular conditions as reward for taking the chance. The layout was one I call “National,” Jake calls it “Mega Flow.” Of all the layouts, and we have a bundle of fine options, I think it is the best one. It invites nose to tail contests, it takes the chicane in the best way, and the right side sweeper is high speed delight. And it showed in the high quality racing throughout the day. We'll tuck it away for awhile. Like listening to “Stairway to Heaven,” there is a rare grandeur, and it is wise to not wear it out.
Overall, it was a satisfying weekend. Looking forward, we may make adjustments. I think the double-header concept is sound, but for this back to back event, we may shift from 3 quals and a main to 2 quals and a main. Saturday was awfully long, and it depletes the tank. Not to mention leaving little time afterward for dinner. We will see. I don't like to short change the single day racers.

They don't stamp the tires on the side of what compound, so its hard to tell unless you just have an experienced/in the know person handy to check them out.

I just wanted to say a couple of things in regards to the quoted text. Saturday was long but fun. I was drained to the point of not making it the next day. I totally like this idea of dropping one qualifier, saying that and knowing that I broke in the second, having three was nice. I also would have felt more like coming back if there had been novice trophies like at 2016 ECC. I know it is a small and very random class, but we are all trying to work our way up to race with the "real" classes and it is nice to still be working toward that something. Additionally, I think if there was some sort of carryover from day to day, perhaps qualifiers one and two on day one and a third on day 2 with mains? I know points and such were mentioned but I have never actually saw anything about them. I have only raced with Seattle RC like 5 times so I could easily be missing something in the rules too.
I also want to say that I really like the club having the stock tires for sale! I heard some complaints about the choice and durability but it made things so very easy!
Thanks again for the fun Saturday and my first run at the Seatac track. Made me look forward hopefully having more time so I can come out there often next year!

This was my first Sizzler, and it didn't disappoint! Thanks to everyone for such a great time.
"Old Man Mod" (thanks for that, Stuart
) was the most fun driving a TC I've had, ranking right up there with the first time I made a tight turn at full speed in a twelfth scale. I'll run that class any time it's offered!
Unfortunately, in the main I decided it was time to strength check the barrier at the end of the front straight. Good news, it's still strong! Bad news, it left me a spectator on Sunday. Good news, it freed me up to watch some truly amazing displays of driving, across all classes.
This has been a great summer season, with a couple of races left before we move back to the friendly confines of the Hanger/Community Center. I'm looking forward to racing those tracks with you as well.

Cole & I had a blast... & I thoroughly enjoyed "old man" TC. Thanks to all for some patience & great racing with Cole, in Scale Spec & TC stock... it always makes my day to see him have some competitive battles out there.
Unfortunately we passed on Sunday... the "threat" of rain & another potential late finish put us on the road, for me to get back to a work shift back home.
We look forward to coming back... likely sooner than later.

Thanks for coming down and bringing Cole with you. Let me say, bringing up a boy in racing, there are sometimes challenges. Possibly the most difficult was/is seeing him in the midst of the action, hoping and praying he makes good decisions and doesn't take out another racer who has worked hard for his race day. I have no great insights or wisdom to offer on how to make that easier. I will simply say that the Seattle RC Racers have been patient and forgiving of Stuart as he has matured.
I remember a particularly frustrating afternoon for Clifton at NORA, when I wanted to pack up and leave after the third or fourth time he and Stuart had tangled in 1/12th scale. But it was Mike who extended the encouragement and let Stuart know it was okay, and that he was happy to keep sharing the track with him. It was one of those time when I felt true gratitude, the kind that leaves you humbled.
It's obvious Cole has the fire in his eye! He wants to race and win. And even since this past fall, and last season when I first met him, he is improving all the time. I suspect he is as welcome at your home club as he is here. That's a solid group of guys up there.
Keep bringing him out. But also, remember to keep a little in the tank for yourself. It was a pleasure to race you on Saturday. That was a great battle in the main. Let's do it again!

Thanks for hosting a great race. This was the first time my son Alex and I have raced at this track and it was well organized and a lot of fun. Like Kyle, I also couldn't stay around for the Sunday race as work comes way too early Monday morning for me. I do hope to make it out for some more racing fun in the future. Keep up the excellent work guys!
