Where do you get clay for an indoor track? My friend is toying with the idea of an indoor track in Central Oregon and asked me if I knew where to get the dirt/clay. How much does it cost? Thanks.

It depends on what you want. Do you want good-quality screened clay or just excavated clay. Most of the clay from the last A-Main track was from an excavation site here in Sandy that my cousin was doing. We just had to pay for trucking and that was it. But we spent a lot of time picking through the clay at every track change, getting rid of rocks, roots, concrete, glass, etc. After about the 10th track change, then it was mostly rocks. I would say that if money is not a consideration, get some good screened clay. If money is a little tighter, get some excavated clay from a job site and plan on spending time picking lots of stuff out of it. The clay from the Sandy area is good red clay that seems to pack well and has good traction.

Most of the large excavators in Central Oregon have "pits" that have clay for sale. Knife River, Del Barber, Jack Robinson

I like to party! and I get itchy cutting carbon fiber.

Chad, have your friend pm me, if it helps I will get him some names & numbers of dirt merchants in the area.
