Club Race #1 Complete

Alright well here begins the long write up of Day #1. The day can pretty much be summed up with two phrases "Great Racing" and "House Transponder Issues" . All of us worked pretty hard to get the day off on time and we were fairly close starting about 130pm.
It soon became rather apparent that the house transponders were not going to work well all day... The first round lasted a little over 3 hours and put us going into the second round of qualifying around 5PM we managed to finish the next round of qualifying and the mains (1 round only) in a decent time but the drag and drop every race really slowed things down. We can really speed things up if we can solve two major issues of the transponders not working right and the frequency conflicts in slash. Fix those two things yesterday and we cut off at least 2.5 hours on the race day i think. So I hope everyone had a great day yesterday and didnt get discouraged by the slow pace... we are going to try the next race at 1PM again and if it seems to run long we will bump the start times up to earlier in the day to hope to finish around 6 or so. We also will have to hold more strict to the 3 cars= class rule, if someone breaks and the class drops to 2 we are going to have to cut that class out for the day to speed things up. On saturday that would have eliminated Mod Short Course Truck, Monster Truck and 18th Scale racing for the day. All in all i think the day was alot of fun the track almost seemed to get BETTER as the day went on and the mains had great traction and there were very few areas that had chunked out on us.... I honestly believe you will not find a better outdoor track surface in Washington and possible the Northwest. All PDF's of every round can be found ---> http://tricitiesrc.com/php/images/st...ts/04-11-2009/

Lets get into some individual classes-
SPEC SLASH-
Well the B main saw Zach Phister and Dave Robinson Drive away from the rest of the pack to earn a bump into the A-Main. Once the A Main got rolling things were crazy 10 trucks barreling into the first corner made for some serious carnage on the first couple of laps..By about half way through most of the things had sorted out pretty good and the positiongs seemed to stay... Conrgats to all the drivers who made the A main and the Top 3
EDIT: Corrections made to race results on 4/12 to car #2
1)Justin Wilde
2)Jesse Howell
3)Jason Walters
Full Results of the main-> http://tricitiesrc.com/php/images/st..._A1-Main-3.pdf

Mod Short Course Truck-
It only ended up being the two drivers, Gordon and Kelly in the Main and it was a back and forth battle throughout the 6 min with high flying trucks and it actually came down to the final lap when kelly pulled away and took the win.
1) Kelly Hill
2) Gordon Christensen
Full Results of the main-> http://tricitiesrc.com/php/images/st..._A1-Main-3.pdf

18th OPEN-
In the end this class was left with 2 drivers as well with Dave taking a commanding victory over Daniel. These little cars handled much better than expected on such a large track and hopefully we can make this a larger class throughout the year or it will have to be dropped :(
1)Dave Robinson
2)Daniel Nipper

2WD Truck-A great Turnout for this class and we hope to see more of that as the year goes on. 5 trucks made it to the main as 2 had broke earlier in the day. There was a little bit of a battle for the first few laps after Justin Made a bobble and let Roger and Rob by. In an attempt to gain time Justin started going for the quad in the back and ended up breaking putting the TQ out of the race and Roger never looked back taking the first club race of the 2009 season. And a great job by the young driver Tanner Macri driving himself up to the Podium in the first race, Look for great things from this kid this year!
1)Roger Remines
2)Rob Howe
3)Tanner Macri
Full results of the main -> http://tricitiesrc.com/php/images/st..._A1-Main-3.pdf

8th Scale Truck-WOW What a 15 min Battle this turned out to be! Kent Horner had trouble in the qualifying heats throughout the day once by bad luck when cars were getting checked in and the next time his CVD popped but when the main came he showed he meant business. Travis Pipkins got out to the early lead and held on to it for the first 10 laps went Kent reeled him in from the back of the back then for the next 8-9 minutes it was a back and forth battle. Kent got around Travis with about 1 min 30 to go on the clock and was able to hold him off and win the first race of 2009.
1) Kent Horner
2) Travis Pipkins
3) Robert Macri
Full main results here-> http://tricitiesrc.com/php/images/st...k_A-Main-3.pdf

10th Gas Truck- Early it started to look like Kason Russell was just going to drive away with this thing as his pace was 3 laps more for the 15 min than his competitors. But at the 6 lap mark Kason broke his gas truck and was out of the main leaving Les and Tanner to battle it out. Les kept it smooth and drove away with the first A Main in Gas Truck of the 2009 season.
1) Les Jeffrey
2) Tanner Macri
3) Kason Russell
Full main results here-> http://tricitiesrc.com/php/images/st...k_A-Main-3.pdf

Monster Truck-
This main ended up being shortened to 6 min as there were only 2 drivers by the main... Jesse and tanner race back and forth showing massive power and huge air for the whole 6 min in there electric Revos. In the End Jesse came out on top
1) Jesse Howell
2) Tanner Macri
Full main results here -> http://tricitiesrc.com/php/images/st...k_A-Main-3.pdf

8th Scale Buggy-
The finale of the evening (due to delays in the day) was the Buggy Boys. TQ Darren Shank got caught up in some carnage in the first jump and ended up falling back but quickly regained pace. Jade Russel got out in front for a quick sniff before he was passed by Shannon Azure, and then Darren. Darren ended up getting by Shannon and that is pretty much how the race held out, although Darren tried in the last minute to make the race alot closer by putting it on his lid after both the quad and the triple he ended up hanging on for the first race of 2009.
1) Darren Shank
2) Shannon Azure
3) Jade Russell

Again a great day of racing hopefully Jason will get some photos and video posted here from the First club race. Hopefully we can get the same turnout or better on the second race and it will go much smoother for even better racing.

RESULTS FOR RACE #2

http://www.tricitiesrc.com/php/image...s/IMG_0143.jpg

What a great day of Racing action! Thing got rolling around 130 and besides a slight breeze the weather was good for some RC racing. Transponder issues were greatly reduced this time around and we finished all the mains including the Second A mains for electric classes by 815pm, a whole hour faster than the single main race on the 11th. Things will only get better this year. So lets get to some racing action, With 51 Entries we had a great turnout and many many new faces. The biggest suprise of the day a 23 CAR SLASH CLASS! It is great to have a C main in club racing, really makes people drive their way into the "show". Congratulations to all the podium finishers this week!

Individual class Results-
SPEC SLASH-
Wow 23 Drivers and C Main deep class in club racing! This is turning into quite the draw for people and looking like a class full of fun. We added a weight rule for this week and things really seemed to be pretty even. Working up from the C main was Dennis Kendall and Aspen Russell to find a spot in the B main. Dennis was unable to run the B due to frequency issues and being the lowest qualifier in the B got bumped from the Main. In the B main It was Darrell Tidrick and Erik Michel on 8 lap paces that put them out in front and got them into the SHOW. After having some issues on the first 3 laps TQ Justin Wilde found his way back out front, this time however it was not just a drive away race. 3 Drivers were on the 9 lap pace this go round and really proved for some good racing. In the End it was Justin Wilde taking the win. After a technical inspection of Darrell Tidricks Slash after the A Main it was determined that illegal tires and shock bodies were used on the truck, this resulted in a DQ and Darrell was given a last place finish of the 23 drivers. Only the Stock Traxxas Tires and Wheels are allowed. Only 1 Main was counted for points as the second main had less than 1/2 of the original drivers still present and had influence from non A main drivers. Congratulations to the A-Main drivers and to our podium finishers!

EDIT: Corrections made to race results on 4/26 to car #2 and #9
1)Justin Wilde
2)Chance Overholt
3)Greg Anderson

10th 4WD Buggy-
This class went from not having any running buggies in week 1 to a class 5 strong. In the mains it was apparent that durability is not always a 10th scale buggies strong suit. Jade Russell who had been fast all day in qualifying continued his ways in the mains. Brian Phillips and Justin Wilde were fast as well and put the pressure on Jade. Justin couldnt keep the car on the track long enough to contend. But Brian was able to earn himself the A1 victory. In A2 main 3 laps in saw Justin out front when again the electronics failed and put him out of the race leading to a battle between Jade and Brian for the victory. Untimely bobbles by Brian let Jade take the win in A2 and it was all up to the computer after that. With both Drivers finishing 20 laps between them in two mains Jade won the tie breaker doing it in 12:48 compared to Brians 13:03 time. Great driving by all as these cars are little fragile land missiles should be some good racing this summer!
1)Jade Russell
2)Brian Phillips
3)Kelly Hill

2WD Truck-

Another Solid showing for the 2WD truck class looked to be deja vu from race number one. Justin Wilde earned the TQ with Brian Phillips knocking on the door. A1 saw TQ enter the first corner but not exit and it was Brian who drove a fast clean race and proved that he was going to be a force in the 2WD truck class this year. In A2 it was a Battle between Brian and Justin, back and forth Justin would make costly bobbles that would let Brian by and then Brian would return the favor. In the end Justin would take the win in A2, but with the DNF in round 1that would leave Brian as the Winner for Race #2 in 2WD truck. Smooth consistent driving in Both mains put Kim Shank in second place for the day, great drive by her! here is a short video of the last 3 laps of the A2 main you can see some of the battle (Justin in green, Brian in purple)- http://vimeo.com/4345849
1)Brian Phillips
2)Kim Shank
3)Justin Wilde

8th Scale Truck- This class saw domination throughout the day. Strarting in qualifying it was apparent that Ryan McCrery meant to run away with this thing which is what he did. Ryan drove fast and clean and put 3 laps up on the entire field over the 15 min main. The only real battle on the track was between Thad Stout and Travis Pipkins for 3rd place. In the end it was Ryan with the win followed by Donovan Lacka and then Thad.
1) Ryan McCrery
2) Donovan Lacka
3) Thad Stout
Full main results here-> http://www.tricitiesrc.com/php/image...k_A-Main-3.pdf

10th Gas Truck- This race saw Kason flame at the start and not get it fired back up so it came down to a battle between Joe Cathey and Jim Bise. Joe drove fast and clean and slowly began to pull away. Later in the race Joe began putting Jim Laps down. Pressure from the spectators pushed Joe into going for the rear quad, a solid landing on the lid resulted in a broken shock tower and Joe out of the Race. He had put enough laps on Jim to hold him off for the win though and Race #2 for Gas Truck goes to Joe Cathey.
1) Joe Cathey
2) Jim Bise
3) Kason Russell

8th Scale Buggy-
The main event for 8th Scale buggies was up in the air going in, Ryan McCrery had earned TQ but brother Rick McCrery and Joe Cathey were all right there. At the start it was Ryan who jumped out to the early lead and looked to make his TQ stick, 3 laps in though saw Ryan flame out letting Joe sneak by. Ryan ended up bowing out of the main with car troubles and left Rick and Joe up front in a battle, Behind the top 3 spots things were pretty much held pact for the entire 15 minute main. But in the end a few bobbles by Rick left Joe up front and taking the win for Race #2. Great job by all the drivers as this class is showing to be an extremely competitive club race, congrats to all the Podium finishers.
1) Joe Cathey
2) Rick McCrery
3) Darren Shank

Another Great club race an I hope we can keep it going, the Month of May only has 1 club race due to the Spokane NCT race falling on the proposed second club race of the month. Keep Selah RC Raceway in mind to get your RC fix for the Month of May check their site www.selahrcraceway.com
