Default Can-Am Challenge

Panda and Jake had a great idea, and we're going to roll with it. We've enjoyed a really great season so far, and one of the nicer parts has been the company of our Canadian friends. So, to thank them for the effort to get here, and to spice up the occasion, this weekend's race is being officially dubbed, titled, and emblazoned:

The Seattle RC Racers Can-Am Challenge

(insert fireworks, guitar solos, confetti, Mardi Gras beads, etc., etc.)

We're going to throw down for some hardware, the plan being some nice etched shot glasses for the 1st-3rd finishers in all classes, and that includes F1, World GT, and Novice. Panda even has a jug of Patron Silver to christen the crystal (chocolate milk for the Cabugon girls, if they show.)

It's still $10 per class, none of that changes. We just want to say thank you to our traveling friends and also treat ourselves to a little extra excitement for the evening.

See you Saturday!

Default LiPo Lifespan?

Hey dudes,

I was wondering, what is the general lifespan for a LiPo battery?

I've been running a couple Thunder Power 5300 mAh, 65C 2S packs for quite a while (well over a year on one pack), and I could swear that one of my two packs feels less punchy, less powerful than the other.

How can you tell if a battery is starting to fade (besides it puffing up or exploding of course! ) Is there a way to measure power loss, or is it just an observation-while-driving kind of thing?

Thanks a bunch!

Peace,
Samwise

The LRP Touch will spit out a 20a discharge results too. Quite handy.

Anyone else feel like we are in for a record breaking evening at the Gym? Grab a Snickers.... gonna be there a while.

I'm guessing 1.5 - 2 years before you see a slight performance drop? It depends on your battery care. I usually charge at 1c, never leave a charge in the battery longer than 3 hours and always use storage mode at the end of the day (you never know if you are going to take an unexpected break). My almost 1 year old batteries are still going strong.

If you want I can do an IR test with my charger. We can compare your cells with a newer pack. Garrets suggestion is also good. The GFX should be able to give you a voltage plot. Problem is finding someone with a lipo GFX.

I'll be sure to bring a shot glass anyways, you know... to celebrate that 4th or 5th place...

Hey Garrett,

Gear it 26/96 and 0-0-0-0 on the speedo. Grip it and rip it. I used a Stock Spec in Victoria this summer with Mod and it had plenty of rip on those settings with a 5.0. The one run I tried some boost it thermaled--granted it was hot but the added speed did nothing but jack my heart rate and add a bushel of blown corners and near coronaries for the 7:45 I managed before it went into self-protection mode. I temp'd the motor at 235 and the ESC at 190 on the heatsink. Neither have been the same since

A 4.0 is beastly horsepower. I mean, seriously...since when do otherwise competent mortals need to boost a 4.0 in 1/12th scale?
