The Comp Committee has wracked its collective brain on the subject of spec motors many times. I will say that while there is a lot of experience that informs opinions about what and what does not work, there is also a lot of confirmation bias that goes into interpreting that experience.

Scale Spec was a control motor class for years, and it worked very well. What it did NOT do is completely eliminate big spending to find that "special" motor, and it did NOT completely eliminate the competitive anxiety that some felt when searching for more speed. If anything, particularly on the second point, and more so when Novak's QC began to slip, I think some felt it more acutely.

So why do I feel it worked very well? Because there were many more who simply thought, "Great! I know what motor to buy, same as everyone else," and off to the races they went. It was a tidy formula, and while the same old spec racing annoyances were still floating around, they were relatively tame compared to 17.5 TC and 1/12th racing. I think, even with the current ROAR-approved motor list allowing more choice, the way the motors are spec'd is keeping the nonsense under control. I would go so far as to say that Scale Spec, from the perspective of real and perceived parity, has never been in a better place.

I've personally reconciled myself to American 17.5 racing. It's our big class, it gets the racer money and the motor vendor attention. Until I can be pointed to a national or even regional race where the 17.5 classes are not the biggest entries, it has to be acknowledged that for all the complaining, the racers are voting with their wallets and their time: 17.5 is king. It's like the joke about the French philosopher who asks, "Sure, it works in practice, but does it work in theory?" We bang on about how Stock is messed up and broken, while in the meantime, it's what keeps the sport afloat.

How we got back over the border is another story. Wanna say the only classes were 12th scale; stock and mod. 4 cells were lucky to have 1700mah, maybe 2100.

So does this mean if you race on the black carpet then you want to US version, but if you race on gray or our carpet then you want the EU version? EU version seems to be very close to the 2017 with a few tweaks.

Ryan,

Our operating model is very similar to the Euro club tracks that are typically temporary setup/race/teardown, and they do not use CRC black carpet.

I will humbly submit that in my opinion both of our indoor tracks are medium grip venues for 1/12th scale and that the carbon chassis are in the sweet spot for the grip level on most nights.

It's not to say the aluminum chassis will not work. It will, just as the carbon chassis will work on black carpet.

Results may vary

In the past, it's been impossible to host a 2 day'er, both physically and financially. But! This March will be different. Basketball has taken a big upswing and has nipped our time slot in the gym. The pencilled in plan as I heard it will be a Sat start at 5p set up, get some practice, knock out R1, get outta there and go get a bite and a sip with the fellas, Sun AM we should bust out R2 and 3 followed by 1 and done mains. Out by early after noon (can not recall what early meant but could be 3'ish). So the beauty of this format is you can sleep in Sat AM (somewhat) ((do the dishes, haul the trash, snuggle with the MS, etc)) load up with the boys and head to Seattle for a little romp on the rug, have a little time for adult nonsense, grab a nap, bust in the door with all your pit equipment set up first thing in the morning with a tall latte, dig in to a couple of heats and main, get yourself home without getting the stinkeye, and then waste your boss' time on rchtech Mon AM!!! See how awesome this is going to be???
