Default Last noob frontier: Servos

I really appreciate how helpful everyone's been in planning out my (and jubilee's) return to RC racing. We're both almost there now and should be racing soon.

I just have one more question... I'm looking to get a quick snappy steering servo but I'm wondering if some of the higher-end ones are overkill in a 1/10 truck (MF2).

What kind of steering servos are you guys running?

I would have just used one thread, but that is just me.
In my MF2 I am running a Hitec 645, been using it for 2 years, no issues.
I would try to find a servo with no less then 130 oz/inch at 6 volts. Servos with less torque are faster, but do not seem to hold up as well with the 1/10 trucks. The digitals are going to have slightly more torque, and be faster. FWIW, I put an AIR 357 in my ZX-5.

I use KO 2143 steering servos in all my cars. I would suggest spending a bit extra and get a fast digital model with good torque. Go with a name brand and stay away from hitec and you should be fine. The JR 9100s looks the be the best of the current crop.

I think thats the one I got. I did everything really well in my initial build... except for the servo. I originally had a JR z650 and it was only 55 bucks. I didnt think the 90 dollar servo would be worth it. The z650 was fine, but my steering was a bit slow. I realized later I should have listened to the shops advice and spent a little more in the servo Dept. Lucky me, I had already planned on upgrading my Ruslter's servo so it wasnt $ really wasted.

I forget what the Torque spec difference was, but I do recall the speed was .17 for the JR and .07 for the AR.

Cant wait for you guys to get your trucks all done. We have to plan a saturday at 4 Seasons!

You're probably right, we could've made an epic "Newbie getting started" thread to document our rise to power (and also to help any other newbies that come along).

i run the air 357 in my buggy and as soon as my other one gets back from airtronics it's going into my MF2 (air 357). running a z590 in the truck right now and it is way to slow for me. i have had to learn to drive the truck and turn before getting to the actual turn itself.

Good enough for me. 357 it is.

All I need now is batteries and a power supply and I'm ready to kick some ass. (as soon as my ebay stuff shows up and I finish building the kit.)
