Puget Micro 1/18th Racing Announcements/Events

This is a thread to announce when the 1/18th racers in the Seattle area will be meeting at Seattle Indoor Raceway* for regular and special events. As well as announcing when we can make it other regional tracks as well. Any questions or comments on our scale or the people involved are welcome.

We also welcome any other NW Washington Micro groups to speak up (NW Nitro-You guys get your club track up yet?)

As for our normal schedule, we usually run 1/18th Micro Racing every other Wednesday at SIR.

Soo on with the show.

This Wednesday the 13th we will be out at SIR. Racing starts at 7:00Pm.

*(I got permission from Doug)

Wednesday March 12th is another race day at SIR for micros. Bring em if you got em.

Wednesday March 26th we will be out again.

Heads up for those interested, we are trying to not only have a micro sedan class this year at Race for Grace, but potentially trying to see about having a Outlaw Spec Mini Off-road class as well. The would include the Tamtechs if they so choose (without the spec motors).

If you were only planning on racing 1-2 classes at the RfG, this could be another option if you have a Mini Off-roader sitting around.

April 9th at SIR. Racing begins at 7:00PM.

April 23rd we will be out and about at SIR. New faces and vehicles always welcome.

May 6th is our next scheduled day. We should be out at the Race for Grace next weekend as well with hopefully a sedan and a off-roaders class.

May 21st this Wednesday we will be out at SIR. It sounds like we will be racing off-road 1/18th & 1/16th carpet this time around. :D

This Wednesday the 4th we will be out at SIR. We will attempt again to hold both a micro sedan and a separate dirt thingies (with jumps) class.

How does this work? You guys run 1/18 offroad vehicles on SIR with jumps set up on the track? Do micros last 5 mins or are the heats shorter than that? What is the appeal to this over 1/10 or 1/8 scale? Is it just that it's cheaper to get started and fun for something different?

I might be interested in something like this since it's so difficult for me to get down to TRCR on weekdays.

Yep, they have created some and plan to make more. We also set out smaller road dots to create rough sections.

5 minutes of course. The efficiency of these little buggers we could even do 8 in theory. :)

Well to be honest most of us regulars only run 1/18th, so its not that its different than the others. We either don't have the space, or especially money for the larger classes. Plus, IMO we are a bit more relaxed when racing. Rarely do you see a driver come off the stand with a scowl on his face. We all know we are different levels and do the best we can.

I might note though I'm not sure after talking to the group if we will have enough for a separate dirt thingies class this Wednesday after all as two of those with ones can't make it and a third is waiting on parts to come in. The only possibility is if some of the SIR regulars whom I know have recently gotten ones come out to play. Otherwise, it will be just one class of roadcourse for our 1/18th sedans or those with slammed off-roaders.

shows how much I know.

can you give me some examples of the offroad 1/18s that people are racing?

Xray M18T Pro
Associated RC18T FT
Duratrax Vendetta ST

SIR carries parts for the Xray. There are other stores nearby that carry parts for the others.

What motors are you guys running? A few of us in the Portland area were getting together in a garage running micros for a couple of years - was actually a really nice setup, close racing. We were running the Micro RS4, a mild brushed mod motor, 6 cell AA packs (1600 mAh if I remember correctly) and we could put in fast laps for 30 minutes or more if the cars held together. The size of the track combined with the speed of the cars made them feel very similar to 1/10th scale mod sedan. Was great practice in the off season.

Pretty much outlaw, run what you brung. Many times though its not the fastest motor that wins. I run a Graupner Speed 300 6v on a 2 cell lipo in my m18 sedan, while a 4900kv brushless in my truck.
