Sunday 9/17 was it, the last regular club race of the year, and it did not disappoint! For a moment we thought that it was going to be a very light day, but then right as we were going to start registration people started to show. For a bit we thought that we should have brought warmer jackets and then right as heat two started the sun came out and the track came in. In the middle of our season this year we built a class we called “Experienced” to be a sort of catch-all for people who know how to drive but may be playing with a new car build or perhaps are running a new to them class and are not yet ready to go full in with drivers in a particular class. Historically Novice has ended up being this catch-all, but as we have been seeing more Novice drivers this year, we wanted to break it out. This Sunday we got to use it and it ended up being some very fun racing to watch. I look forward to using it again next year. GT-2 (21.5 motor) was strong again with two heats and great racing from everybody. Mr. Shook led the way and took the podium with Andy and Albert in the mix. The battle at the end between Justin G and Albert was one to watch, as was Rovic and his working his way from the B bump right into the thick of things in the main before a bad flip put him near the back of the pack. Mini was blast with a full driver's stand and Tony taking the top spot in the end. VTA and F1 also showed up with good numbers and great racing. Justin and Tony had a great battle for the entire VTA Main and kept it exciting enough that I did not tell them the race was over. It was simply a great day to end our normal season in many great ways. Results are available at https://rcscoringpro.com/events/20239/ and I will post the heat sheets to FB later this week.

Saturday 9/30 will be the House of Fire Car and Motorcycle Show in Mukilteo at Travis Industries (12521 Harbour Reach Dr, Mukilteo, WA 98275). As long as it is not raining, we will be there running races for the classes that show and having a few demo races during the day. If you come out plan on having fun and visiting with the people stopping by the show. This is a no cost race and a great chance for all of us to promote our hobby and perhaps bring in more racers. The show runs from 10am-4pm, setup starts at 8. I hope to see you there.

Thank you all for a great 2023 season! I hope to see you at The House of Fire and if not there see you in 2024!

One thing I forgot to mention, we did hold the end-of-season drawing for the two kits we had. (Super big thanks to Russ for donating his TT02 kit with a Merc body and a servo!)... the winner of the TT02 was Harlan, and the winner of the MF01 Rally Beatle was Joer! Harlen was not present for the drawing so Russ will meet up with his dad at NORA to deliver the winnings. Joer was super excited to get the Rally Beatle. We plan on doing the same thing next year, just have to decide on a kit.

We managed to get the trailer and other outdoor racing things put away for the winter this weekend so now I can put a bit more time towards Mini Z, so let’s talk about that.
- Alderwood Boys and Girls Club 19719 24th Ave W Lynnwood, WA 98043.
- 2023 race dates are: 10/22, 11/5, 11/19, 12/3, and 12/17.
- Race fees, $15 for the first entry and $10 for any additional. The extra $5 over our normal outdoor fees should cover the higher cost of the facility. We will revisit this before we move into 2024.
- The facility will let us in to start setup at 9:30 and we have the facility for 6 hours a session and we need to include teardown in that, so we have to keep that in mind. I hope to have registration done and be racing by 11.
- We use the EasyLap transponder system, you can find transponders for less than $30, please note that these transponders use light so be sure to position them where they can be seen in the window of your kit. https://www.kenonhobby.com/EASYLAP-Micro-IR-Personal...
- Classes, these are my first ideas and are subject to change based on what shows up and your comments. If you think we are missing something let me know.
o Novice – Near out of box. You may flip the kingpins. You may change from the box wheels/tires, shock springs, T-Plates and you may use any pinion from 6-9 teeth. Radio will be in training mode. I am not sure if other brands have a training mode so this may be a Kyosho only class. Alkaline or NiMH batteries. 2WD or 4WD kits.
o HFAY Near box racer – Same as above but take the radio out of training mode. Can also upgrade bearings, motor wires, and capacitors. Other brands besides Kyosho should be okay here and will be allowed as long as racing is even.
o HFAY Racer – See the HFAY site for rules (https://pdxminiz.com/classes/).
o HFAY Open – See the HFAY site for rules (https://pdxminiz.com/classes/).
o Buggy – Same as Near Box Racer, but with buggy kits, and assuming we can get them made in time we will put out some jumps and maybe some moguls or other fun hazards.
o Other classes on-demand with 4 or more racers.
o If you have a suggestion for a class that we should have right off the bat or a change to what is here or in HFAY, leave a comment.
- Tech is on your honor, keep it fair, this is for fun.
- Let other racers and visitors look at your cars and talk about them with people. I am not saying to share all of your secrets, but remember that this is for fun so be social.
- We will not be joining HFAY right off the bat. We have a lot to learn and if things go well then, we will get that together down the road.
- The facility does have a refrigerator that we can use, we just have to remember to leave anything already in there alone and take anything we put in out when we go.
- We must clean when we go.
- Plenty of places nearby to grab food. McDonald's, Subway, Whole Foods, Ezell’s, KFC, everything near Alderwood Mall, and more not far away.

It's almost race day! Sunday, SUNday, SUNDAY! Here are the most current versions of the rules and a quick overhead view so you know where to park and enter:
Some basic rules and such with updates from 10/9:
- First race this Sunday 10/22, other 2023 race dates are: 11/5, 11/19, 12/3, and 12/17.
- Alderwood Boys and Girls Club 19719 24th Ave W Lynnwood, WA 98043.
- Race fees, $15 for the first entry and $10 for any additional.
- The facility will let the race directors in at 9:30 and setup will start right away. We will open the side doors shortly after we get things out of storage.
- We need to have the room packed up and be out by 3:30 to avoid extra fees.
- We use the EasyLap transponder system, you can find transponders at Kenon Hobby, Amain Hobbies, Silver Horse RC, and others.
- Classes; these are subject to change based on what shows up and your comments.
*** Novice – Near out of box. You may flip the kingpins. You may change from the box wheels/tires, shock springs, T-Plates and you may use any pinion from 6-9 teeth. Radio will be in training mode. Alkaline, NiCd, NiMH, or Li-ion AAA batteries. 2WD or 4WD kits.
*** HFAY Near box racer – Same as above but take the radio out of training mode. You can also upgrade bearings, motor wires, and capacitors. Other brands besides Kyosho should be okay here and will be allowed as long as racing is even.
*** HFAY Racer – See the HFAY site for rules (https://pdxminiz.com/classes/). This allows LiPo batteries.
*** HFAY Open – See the HFAY site for rules (https://pdxminiz.com/classes/). This allows LiPo batteries.
*** Buggy – Same as Near Box Racer, but with buggy kits, and assuming we can get them we will put out some jumps and maybe some moguls or other fun hazards.
*** Other classes on-demand with 4 or more racers.
- No tire sauce. You may clean your tires but tires must be dry when placed on the track.
- No spray chemicals may be used in the building.
- Tech is on your honor, keep it fair, this is for fun.
- Let other racers and visitors look at your cars and talk about them with people. I am not saying to share all of your secrets, but remember that this is for fun so be social.
- The room needs to be at least as clean as when we arrived so clean up after yourself.
- We are a kid-friendly club and facility so watch your language, and no drugs, alcohol, or pornography. If you smoke or vape that must be done outside and please be sure to step at least 25’ away from any entrances.
- Other groups will use other rooms in the facility and may come in to see what we are doing.
- Be kind, don’t yell, and keep any profanity to a minimum. If you are waiting on a marshal to flip your car it is not their fault if it takes a few moments, it is your job to keep your car on its wheels in the first place.
- Race, remove your car from the track, turn your car and radio off, and return to the track to marshal. You work on your car after you marshal. Please do not hold up the next race by trying to work on your car before you marshal.
- If using Li-Po, LiFe, NiMH, or other non-AAA batteries you must use a battery bag or box (ammo cans are okay too) for charging. Battery bag or box preferred with all chargers.
- If you are not feeling well, sneezing, coughing, etc., please do not come for that day. We have immunocompromised members and it is cold and flu season.
- Above all else, HAVE FUN AND DO NOT RUIN ANYBODY ELSE’S. We are all here for fun, so let’s focus on making it fun for yourself and others.

See you Sunday,
C

A couple of quick reminders for tomorrow. We do have access to tables and chairs at the facility, but we have not explored the condition that they are in so to be safe we do recommend bringing your own.
If you want to use a card for your race fees that is just fine, but there is a card use fee of $1 to cover the fees from square.
Remember to come in the side entrance. The front doors stay locked and closed till later in day. The race directors get let in at 9:30 and we will open the door as soon as we have everything out of storage. Hopefully by 9:45 or so.
Last but not least, we have to setup, race, and teardown in 6 hours. We will try to keep things casual and hopefully that will be enough time, but we don't know what we don't know, and we can examine that again after the first 5 races.

See y'all tomorrow!

Week 3 of Mini Z racing it today! Doors should open before 10.

Just a heads up that I will not be there, I have some young ladies that are doing very well in a soccer tournament to try to help guide to their first tournament final, so taking cards today may be a bit rough, but will figure it out. I may try to swing in after our morning match today. Y'all have fun and I will be back for race #4 forward.

Racing on Sunday 12/3! Doors open before 10. We will be flipping the track to the smooth side so there will be less dust for the cars and from what I saw thanks to Kody Knudtson grip is nearly as good anyway. Also, going to see if we can setup some video for race streaming. Hope to see you there!

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong place, I saw Lynnwood Washington, so thought this the best place to ask.

Hello, I am local to the Lynnwood Wa. area, and am interested in possibly getting into Mini-Z racing. Unfortunately, none of the hobby shops in my area carry anything, save Everett Hobby Town USA, which had a few Mini-Z 4x4's. I saw Broadway Hobby mentioned earlier in this post, but when I drove out there, the guy behind the counter looked at me like I was crazy, and said they didn't carry anything like that. So where do all of you go to purchase your cars and components? Or is online the only way to purchase Mini-Z?

Hello. Feel free to swing by tomorrow and ask any questions that you might have about cars and check out what we are racing. We will be at the Alderwood Boys and Girls club and opening up the side doors at about 10am and there till about 3pm. It may give you a good idea of what you are interested in picking up. As for getting cars, HobbyTown in Redmond has actually been stocking a few cars and parts and they even have a track that will be hosting races and practices. I think racing is on pause till the holidays are done, but still, racing options are good. Besides them we have been working on getting Broadway to stock some but don't have him convinced yet. Online you have some good choices. AMain, Kenon, KyoshoAmerica are all good choices. Hope that helps! If you can swing in tomorrow I may have a car that you can try too.

Thanks,
Collin

Hi all,

Mini Z at the B&G is going well. Our last race date for 2023 is 12/17 and then we are adding 5 more races starting in January 2024. Thanks to everyone who has come out to race, and also thank you to everyone who stopped in to check things out. As we continue to evolve and grow the program we will continue to also grow and evolve the rules. Here is the latest rules update which was just completed today: Link to the Mini Z rules

Please read them over and offer any improvement suggestions that you may have.
