RC racing at the SCCA Rose Cup races at PIR
#1

Attention on-road rc racers of all scales. Rose City Scale Racing has been approached by the Rose Festival Committee responsible for the Rose Cup races June 9-11 at Portland International Raceway. The club thinks as I do that this is a tremendous chance to showcase our sport. The downside for us is the asking price, $1800, for the use of the facility. RCSR would very much like to host this two day event, but not go broke doing so.
I am posting this thread in an attempt to guage interest in the event. If you feel that you would most likely enter this event post it here. We will be making our decision at the next club meeting in early March.
Thanks
Larry

This could be a great event. Huge crowds watched the RC racing when RCSR last raced at the Rose Cup. We will need 50 or so entries to break even. No one is interested in doing all the work involved in putting on an event and losing a ton of money doing it. So we will see how much interest is out there before we make our decision.

Sounds like a hoot, talking about hoots, I see that hooters is going to be just down the road, maybe we could get a few hooter girls to help out with corner duty, that should bring in the racers!!!!!!!!!!, whts kind of entry fee are we thinking of larry?

Hello,
Could you please release a little more info about this race. I have talked to a couple of people around here and there is interest. I know you said racers of all scales but will this race be for nitro and electric or just nitro like in the past. I did participate at this race in the past and it was a major hoot. Looking forward to more info. Thanks.

Proposed classes are; 1/5, 1/8, gas sedan
electric classes; sportsman, stock, 19t or mod
I think for this event we need six or more to make a class. If enough interest maybe pan.
Pass the word on this as not everyone is into r/c tech. The club website will be up soon with a message board.

I'll dig out the gas sedan and gear up the mod sedan for a race like this.

Hey Fred
If all goes well, Friday practice, once the track is up, until they tell us to leave. Saturday morning practice and qualifying, Sunday mains. I don't think
we can run a qualifier Sunday because we will probably have to take a brake
during the Rose Cup race. We aren't sure yet on that. It's funny because the last time we raced we didn't have to take a break and the 8th scales were running the same time as the Cup. We almost had more spectators, that didn't go well with the SCCA guys!
See Ya, Mike
