Default Staten Island Radio Control Auto Racing (SIRCAR)

Welcome to the SIRCAR thread! SIRCAR stands for Staten Island Radio Control Auto Racing. We are a group of RC racers based in Staten Island, NY who support and race at many area RC tracks. We are on a quest to once again have a year-round, not-for-profit racing club/facility (more than likely utilizing the Kyosho Mini-Z due to its small size) on Staten Island.

Some of you have seen the SIRCAR announcement and group on Facebook. The SIRCAR group is a closed group for now, as we are trying to keep posts somewhat limited to actual members or potential members. Here are some details about what SIRCAR is all about.

The new track will work like a club - with a membership. Members will prepay 6 months in advance. We must get about 40 people to commit before we can open. Initial startup cost will be about $400 per person for 6 months, which is not a small amount of money, but look at it this way - that's only about $15 a week. Also important to note is that the price will come down as we increase the amount of members and get past the initial setup costs. This initial cost includes track material, which will only be needed at the beginning. Once we have these funds we can pay the landlord for 6 months and buy track materials and the lap counter. Existing members will then start saving up to fund the next six months. The more members we get, the less dues cost each 6 months. (NOTE: Future members who join after the first batch of 40 will also pay this initial $400 rate in their first 6 month session to contribute their part of the setup. Funds will be kept in a track account, and will be carefully monitored by the president and treasurer to fund maintenance, equipment, special event costs, etc. Again, this is a non-profit. All funds stay in the club.)

Members will be owners. Each member will have a key. There will be designated group race and practice times, but you can also go any time you want! Air conditioning and heat will be restricted to certain temps, times and days to help keep the electric bill in-check.

I found a landlord on Ellis Street that wants to work with us. The room is about 50' x 28' with 20' ceilings, and it's wide open. It has heat and A/C, but I still have to test it for myself. He was very intrigued obviously with the potential to have a tenant paying six months in advance. There are benefits to us doing this, mainly locking in pricing, increasing negotiating power for the next six months or maybe even a year, and knowing you can practice and race for months whenever you want.

A track cannot easily survive when counting on funds that may or may not come. Weather, seasons, busier times of the year, other track events, holidays, etc. all play a major role in making (and not making) budget. This program allows the track to survive even if some miss a race night here and there.

It'll be your track - so take advantage of this amazing opportunity and become an investor! If you or anyone you know might be interested in this, please share SIRCAR information with them and send a request to be added to the FB group. Parent/child groups and students under 21 will get special rates.

Please post your thoughts. We will set up an in-person meeting for early September with the hope that we can be up and running by October 1st. It's time! What do you all think??? Let's do this!!! - Al
jiml and J-milz like this.
