Nice. We'll be racing all summer as well. Stop out this Saturday and say hi. If you've never raced on-road before, we do offer a novice class. People of all ages have been running in the novice class, so it's not just for kids. You can pretty much "run what you brung", within reason. For example: no nitro, electric only. We have had a few people run an off-road vehicle, but either slicks or foams. Car must be clean as well.

Of course, on-road cars are preferred. Popular beginner classes are BRP (1/18 scale pan cars on foams), or Vintage Trans AM (1/10 touring cars, 25.5 Novak brushless motors, spec VTA tires/rims, VTA body).

+1

M3Roc,
We had 8 or 9 BRP cars show up and run the last club race, and that wasn't counting a couple that run novice. BRPs are incredibly simple making them easy to pickup and get going with quickly. I have yet to break anything on either my Road or LTO BRPs. Definitely a great place to start even if you plan to move on to another class.

The pleasure was all mine! You guys are a great bunch to watch. Ive got my car on the way now and ive almost got all my electronics together likewise. Hopefully ill be able to jump into VTA in the next week or so. Also I found a really nice CRC kit for a great price, im debating picking that kit up for a later use. What are the motor specs on the CRC 1/12?

Really excited about getting out there again maybe next weekend to watch for a while. You guys are a great bunch.

Stock TC - ROAR approved 17.5 brushless - 2s LiPo battery
WGT - ROAR approved 13.5 brushless - 1s LiPo battery
Stock 1/12 - ROAR approved 17.5 brushless - 1s LiPo battery

ESC specs - "blinky" only (no timing advance/boost/turbo added via the ESC) - motor end bell timing only.

Cool. Glad I didn't buy that Viper 25.5 new then. Is it only the motor that needs to be Novak or the ESC as well?

I picked up a 17.5 Viper motor for a good price so I may run that in the stock 12 and later on in the TC class if I can get my hands on another car.

What's the difference in the cars between the WGT and Stock 12? Do guys use the CRC for both but just different motors?

USVTA rules here: http://www.usvintagetransam.com/rules

WGT is 1/10 scale. Larger car than 1/12 scale. Tires are "spec" Lilac compound foam tires for WGT, basically from BSR or CRC.

1/12 scale you can run any 1/12 scale compound foam tires you want, from any vendor.

Default Buckle Up

M3Roc,
Glad you are making some progress. Let me know if you plan on picking up 1/12 scale. I had a lot of fun running it for the first time last week. I'm looking at buying it, but I wanted to get a feel for the class first, because I had never considered running it in the past. It would be nice if I wasn't the only new guy in 1/12.

What I found last week:
Pros:
8min heats and Mains.
these cars are Fun to drive hard, but hard to drive fast
1/12th scale RC road racing is a tradition
The Gate carries tons of CRC parts

Cons:
Foam tires and all the monkey business that goes with that.
The first time out is intimidating, because you know these guys take 1/12 scale serious

Hmm, two BRPs, two TCs, and maybe a 1/12 scale, is now a good time to talk membership dues?

Ok so here's what ive got so far. Ive got the TCXX on the way, should be here Friday. I'm a little nervous to run it even in VTA because finding parts for it will be difficult and expensive. For this car, I still need a 25.5 motor (novak is my only option I presume), Speed controller, battery and servo so almost everything. Ive also listed my T-Maxx online, Im hoping to sell it and use the money to get a TC4 and all the electronics ill need. Save the TCXX for when I get better at not kissing walls.

Im also in the process of talking with a user here who may help me get a CRC 1/12th with a servo. I will most likely run the Viper ESC and 17.5 motor I have in that car. Still need a LiPo, and transponder.

Glad I picked up that M8 last weekend, I really like the feel of it. I ordered a new replacement antenna for the Spektrum Tx and an extra one just in case. Ill have to thank who ever sold that radio, It helped me a lot.

Slowly its all coming together and Mel ill be happy to be another newb in the 12th series with you! We have to show them how unseriously serious we can be when replacing parts is not an option

I purchased the CRC xti this morning. Got a great price on it so im excited. I have about 90% of the electronics needed to run in the 12 stock class. I still need a transponder and a battery.

I don't think we have any transponders for sale. We may have some 1s LiPo batteries.
