Sorry, no. We have the latest CRC FasTrack HD carpet. Road course and oval racing. One of the best run facilities in the country.

I guess this subforum doesn't seem to be very active but just wanted to pop in and say hi. I found my way to this site from the NORCAR site (I followed the link for the WGT-R class). I live out in lake county and am completely new to the RC and racing. Been looking for a hobby and this seems like it'd be a blast for me now, and fun to do with my boys when they're older (they're 3 and newborn currently). Being new I have no idea how to get started. Just wondering if The Gate is visitor/spectator friendly if I wanted to stop by with my older son some time and see what it's like in person and maybe talk to anyone willing to give me some advice on getting started? Thanks!

Absolutely. We are racing on-road this Saturday. Stop by and check it out. We've had racers as young as 3 and as old as 78. Plenty of people willing to help the newbie as well.

Great to hear! Might be able to stop in for a bit on Saturday. My 3yo loves cars and has a little toy rc car of his own but so far hasn't figured out how to control the throttle and steer at the same time so I'm pretty impressed there's been 3yo's racing. Trying to get him excited about it so the boss my wife can't say no when I start buying equipment haha.

Anything we should know about our first visit? Should we bring chairs if we want them? On site concessions? Any entry fee?

Thanks

We have chairs. Limited on-site concessions. No fees for spectators, only to race. Doors open at 9am, and racing should start around 12 - 1pm.

We’re located 10 minutes off I-71 and 15 minutes off the Ohio Turnpike (I-80) just south of Cleveland.

"The Gate” is located in the shopping strip behind McDonald’s and a few doors to the left of Big Lots. Plenty of parking is available in the shopping center.

Hey so I did stop in with my son on Saturday. I think we were the only ones there strictly to spectate so yeah, I was the guy with the kid lol. My son had a blast checking out all the cars and seeing them being worked on up close. I met and talked with some of the guys, got some pointers. Someone offered to sell me a 1/12th scale for the spec class for a good deal which was tempting. I'm not sure I like the idea of messing around with the foam tires all the time though. I'm thinking Wgt-r is the best starting point for me. Everyone says its a good class to get started in, and I like that it's so popular. I'm leaning towards ordering the Calandra kit, maybe this week.

I hope to get back in for another visit in a few weeks, maybe after the oval racing. I mentioned to a couple guys someone gave me a vintage rc car a couple years ago and both offered to take a look at it and help me figure out what to do with it. I have no attachment to it whatsoever so if someone tells me its worth enough to sell or trade to put towards getting some modern equipment I'm all for that.
