If you have the original clutch as shown on that link, I feel for you man. That Serpent clutch sucks as you have to shim from behind the flywheel to get spacing correct. What a turd that thing is!

What do you mean with having to shim from behind the flywheel. The only Serpent clutch that needed that was the very first centax (the one everybody else copied afterwards).

The centaxes from 1998 onwards have all been shimmed from the outside.

that link that rccobra705 gave is great I could never shim correct until that article came out.Its nice to see someone else drive this car,I love it its got the centax II and the two speed that the 1/8 scale serpent cars have.if you need any pointers on this car I would be glad to help,I have had this car since it came out and am still able to keep up with the pack.Keep positive once you get the hang of it everything else will fall into place. Also wanted to thank you for giving me the ebay link for the 705 that was for sale, but the guy didn't want to ship to canada.Someone gave you a link for ashfordhobby,Robert is great A-1 customer service.....ed

I make this link to Centax 2 and Centax 3. I have them both. Have never shim Centax 2 and Centax 3 behind the flywheel. The link to Cauleys artikcle explain all you need to know about Centax clutch 2 and 3.

Thanks for the link, man. I think that will help, once I get my new thrust bearing and thrust bearing spacer in the mail. I ordered from Robert at Ashford Hobbies, before. He's a helluva guy, but his parts list doesn't include pics. For a noob, the pics are necessary. I don't have a book for my 705, so I use www.acehardwarehobbies.com. They have pics of almost all the Serpent parts.

The problems I'm having stem from the fact that I bought the car used. The clutch was missing the 0.5 mm shim, behind the flywheel, it had two 5X10 bearings underneath the bell, instead of one 5X10 and one 5X13,it had a thrust bearing that was missing 3 of the 5 balls, and it had no shims in it. Not knowing much about nitro cars or clutches, I ordered a thrust bearing from Robert. Did I order the 5X10? Of course not, I ordered the 5X9mm, because I'm ignorant. I tore it out of the package before finding out it was the wrong one, so I have a useless, shiny, new 5X9mm thrust bearing, if anyone wants it. When I get the new 5X10mm thrust bearing in, (2 weeks later) I notice that the spacer is scored, so I order a new one. When I get that in, I find the tech manual stuff on the Serpent site and what do you know? I need a 5X13mm bearing and a bunch of shims. They are on order, right now. I suppose, once I get it put together correctly, the clutch shoe or the flyweights will be worn and have to be replaced. That's when I will realize I could have just bought the whole setup for $98.

Man, you need to go to www.mytsn.com and login. The manual is there for you to download as well as lots of great information. Heck, I'll sell you a whole 705 roller for $150+ shipping.

Ive understood all that but it seems that i need a hell of alot of shims in order to get 0.6mm almost 1mm

When i put the 1MM shim on the thrust bearing spindle and install the bearings into the clutch housing and tighten everything up, the cluch is engaged !!!!!

Any ideas as its starting to really me off .
