Yes, and much more. You can choose any type of touring car 1/10 and 1/8 available on the market. They are all the same [I think]. Only thing that changes is the internal ratio and the pinions/spurs you can use.

You can also pick engines, pipes, etc.....and setup the properties of these as well.
About the only thing that cant be adjusted as per real life are the roll centres.....other than this, is you can set it in real life, you can set it in VRC.

As far as I know, there is NO difference between car brands, tires, engines, fuel..... for obvious reasons......

So if like you say the car brands handle different with the stock set-up, I can only imagine that these stock set-up's differ......

The car models do have a different gear ratio, other than that they are all the same.

ton's of fun this game can be, it also can drive you nuts finding the right set up for the car, had the hardest time getting the car to turn.

I also downloaded VRC and installed it and luckily my old graphics card works! (Radeon 8500)
I also purchased the MACH track, now I can do some practice before going to the real thing.
I also purchased the USB adapter, because racing with a keyboard is no fun...
Hope I'll get it this week.

Yes, and the tracks you have purchased (if that is the case) you can download again, to upgrade to the newer version.....
