Was going to set it up for some bashing. If running on a track, same as your son.

yes, what are you interested in getting feedback on?
1) RE: performance; there are fast guys going fast with the R8. (I am not one of those)
2) RE: machine design aspects, the ARC is better than most, it uses mostly standard hardware and where there are special bits used it is justified by the payoff. compared to others (I won't name names) where a special machined shim filled a space as a convenience to the designer. A positive example in the R8 is the machined screw heads for the 2speed clutch, where others (Mugen Serpent Shepherd Capricorn) use a standard button head. ARC machined the screw head to afford more clearance so more material can be left in the clutch shoe, and the use of a softer spring that is less sensitive to get set correctly. the suspension arms are all symmetric so you want end up with a box full of left arms.
3) RE: economics, the spares costs are very reasonable compared to the rest, and the quality seems good.

what others are running at your track can matter for advice, comparing notes or borrowing a spare in a pinch. what track would you race at?

Thanks for your input, very helpful. I was leaning hb, but support is terrible and parts can be questionable. My second choice more recently is Mugen, they are local and so are parts.

I wonder how support is on this car should one need to contact arc? Parts seem reasonable. I just wonder on availability and long term supply. Do you know what's the tallest gearing COMBO available?

I will be running this as a street basher, but might run it local at the track the fellow up above runs his at. I believe he is a sponsored driver. He chimed in earlier and seems like a stand up guy.

Thanks again

Ah, you are in the socal area, I missed the note above. hobby-square is in Washington, is responsive, keeps good inventory, with free shipping over $50, and reasonable for smaller orders. with free shipping if I order something sunday evening, it will arrive by Friday.

the longest gearing is 5.37 ratio. (24/56, the current crop of 1/8's are using a 0.8 module gear pitch)

I've had an R8.0 for the last year and a half, sold everything else last year.

As for one over another, I am still getting used to the ARC. (I had the Velox since '08)

This car is very underrated. In the right hands it can compete with the biggest companies. Very durable, very cheap spareparts. Clutch is easy to adjust and the 2 speed gearbox is one of the best with flawless shifts without maintenance. I can only recommend it
el salvador and Thunderbunny like this.
