the magazine will only review the car if the manufacturer pays for it, and then sends it in...........

always read with a grain of salt.....

rc magazines have not gone the way of being objective yet.. they are entirely biased to whom is paying for the add or review, which to this point is essentil to the survival of the mag.......

That's a shame. I always thought the the manufacturer provides the product, and the magazine builds and reviews it.

If I remember correctly, the Impulse PRO was only reviewed in RC Car Action. And that after 6 months it was released...

review.. some... build, not very often, too time consuming, they may be building some more now of the higher end stuff, but not much...

If you're after reviews on kits the best place to get them is at the track just observe and ask questions but make sure you don't ask sponsered or team drivers.

Hey all,

Anyone aware of a good mail-order site for Serpent parts? I just picked up a used Impulse, and need to get some replacements.

Thanks,
Mike

When I do read the reviews on the mags, I just take the technical facts and description and take any opinions with a grain of salt or leave them out totally. I then form my own opinions.

As for parts, you can got to www.rccarinternational.com. They have almost anything Serpent. This online shop is based in Holland.

Next is you can try www.ashfordhobby.com or www.brucknerhobbies.com or www.gasrccar.com. They are all based in US.

But amongst them, I would rate rccarinternational the best in terms of parts availability. Shipping is cheap too.

In your opinion, between the Pro and the 705, there isn't much difference in performance, handling, etc.?

none.. I think the 705 is a excellent car has great improvements.. in the design area of the middle stress points...

my opinion

705 has better reciever location.
easier to take the motor in and out of quickly
like the easy tank removal
battery placement... take it or leave it
if you plant the car in the wall, dead on hard it will bend just behind the front bumper before the front bearing blocks, break the radio tray, exact same on both pro and 705
705 stays stiffer in your hands( ie less flex in the motor area due to the new stiffiners, but this make no real world advantage as it takes a ton of force to flex a pro( and i never use any aluminum x braces or stuff like that, just the stiffiners)

have never cooked a bearing in my centax or two speed, three years same parts lots of big shows.... improvements in two speed aply to the bigger car more, it works pretty much the same.

all suspension and drivetrain parts interchange between the two cars, with exception to the centax and the two speed they must be used together, old or new no mixing, but work in both cars.

ran same lap times and felt the same.... If you are buying new.. buy the 705, but if you can get a good deal on a pro, it will not do bad things for you.. and if 705's are beating you it is you or something broken or off on your car.

I believe when Andrew mentioned about their performance difference, he was referring to a souped up Impulse PRO with all the lightened shafts stuff, the Impact pullys mods, rear sway bar and Ball diff.

In my opinion, when the done the same in the drive train area, they perform about the same.

Personally, the 705 seems to feel a little flatter than the PRO. Maybe it's just me.
