That is the article I used to build it the first time. It is a good article, I just cannot figure out where I went wrong. It is a B!#$% to take out of the car and rebuild but I guess that is what I will have to do.

Sounds that way - have you considered using the new adjustable diff? I bought the conversion parts and it works really great it's lighter and not so tedious to build.

You mean I can buy the diff for the 710 and make it fit the Impulse??? How much work is involved?

The 710 rear diff does NOT fit the Impulse PRO / 705. However, the diff adjustable collar to adjust diff tension is the same for the 705 rear ball diff and the 710 front and rear ball diff.

If what I understood is correct, the FPS that you built yourself seems a little too loose ! Assuming you followed Julius' article to the T, then you need to tighten the rear diff collar a little.

Loosen the 1.5 mm grub screw on the external part of the FPS diff. With the 1.5 mm allen still in the screw, turn the rear left wheel FORWARD while making sure the 1.5 mm allen is still in the screw and stay put. This action will screw the collar in to tighten the rear diff friction. Then tighten the 1.5 mm grub screw again to lock the setting. Try it out and see if you get the friction you require.

Hey thanks, it turns out the little grub screw on the right side, inside the ball cup was not screwed in at all - am I supposed to screw this one down tight?

bigknot ... just so you don't misunderstand ... there are TWO kinds of "ball" diffs for the Impulse/705.

1- FPS diff
2- Ball diff

(of course, there's the planetry gear diff too )

Yes. That should be tightened as per the assembly instruction. But I seriously do not know if that will help your problem you first mentioned. Has that been solved yet?

I've got a big problem with my 705. It just sits there and won't move at all. No power. The engine doesn't even make a sound.

Man, just can't get any time to go race. I can only pop in here and get jealous reading about all of you racing.

Roy, send it over to me, I'll make it move and the engine making noises at the same time

I'm in the same boat actually, been trying to service both my 705 and the 710 but not enough solid time. Just few minutes here and there being busy with the website

Sow and Inital D, in the article it mentions that that particular grub screw should be springy correct? Not tightened down all the way?

Sow - I have the FPS for the Impulse not the 705 unless they are the same.....

I have the Texas Biggie this weekend, I know I will come in dead last but there is an award for that!

Hey, make that car into outlaw class with Lola shell. KevinS, markp27 and myself are doing it.

If you're referring to the one inside the FPS diff, it is suppose to lock the diff initial setting so that the screw on the other side does not loosen out.

If you're referring to the grub screw on the external part of the FPS diff where it locks the diff collar, yes, don't tighten it too hard. Else you'll strip it.

With the Impulse, you need Impact dogbones with the FPS diff. With the 705, the dogbones can already be used with the FPS. The FPS diff is the same on the 705, Impulse and the Impact / 835.

Hey, I admire your attitude. Good for you. Not many people see the way you see things. Hats to you. Racing is not all about winning. Go and give the other guys a run for their money.
