Need Advice Getting Back into 1/8 scale
 

I have been out of the loop for a little over 4 years now, got the itch to get back into 1/8 scale on road. Any suggestion or advice on a car, motor, pipe and body to start out with ? Not really doing to do any serious racing maybe some club racing and benefits race here and there.

I am starting out with nothing at all so I will be on the look out for a RTR or close to RTR (like less radio) most likely used or a or if I get a good deal on a new one. So any advice would be great and helpful so thanks in advance.

Take a trip to your local track and see what every body is currently running. I think that would be a good start.

Mugen imho in 1/8th is at the top, Shepherds are there too, not so much Xray and Kyosho which is a surprise, but that's just a preference thing. There's Capricorn, Infinity, ARC and a whole pile of new players that are all good.

It's like a hypermarket of delicious treats in store for you out there, enjoy.

As said, go to local track, I didn't want to detract from the other posts, if you don't like what you see, you're probably getting bad advice. Get whatever takes your fancy and suits your budget, bearings can be had quite cheap so even a second hand roller will scrub up nicely if it's been used well. You want to leave room in the budget for electronics, transponders etc..

At GLARCRC last year, the ARC R8.0 grew substantial numbers with a new car, compared to the beginning of the year where the majority of cars were mugen, xray, a few serpent, and a couple capricorns and shepherds. by the end of the season, there were as many or more arc as mugen.

now just as I had geared up for 2016 committed to running an arc, the usual arc tent was sporting red cars(Capricorn), and a few xray drivers also had capricorns. turnout was a little sparse so a new breakdown is premature, but Capricorn is definitely up and arc support is reduced.

all the current cars are competitive enough, so local support and parts supply may be factors(depending on how technically/financially independent you are). the only local sales(for self sponsored drivers) I know of is nitrohouse for mugen, and Glenn for all things serpent and nova.

Wow defintly some good 411 Bro, there is a good deal on a Shepard but from what you just said I should rethink this ?

not trying to change your mind, just sharing what I know. Glenn is pretty low-key about it, but I think he pretty much has whatever you need if you are running a Serpent.

nothing wrong with Shepherd, they were more prevalent 4yrs ago, but there are still a few. the importer (nuggets) is very quick in getting stuff to you.

Best advice I can give. Support your local hobby shops/tracks. Have fun. Too many people forget those two things about this hobby.
