Default Ineed a good 12V Battery Charger for my Starter Box!!!!

Hello,

I purchased a charger for the batter in my starter box from my LHS and man does this thing suck! It’s one of those little adapters that you plug into the wall and at the other end it has 2 alligator clips. I am looking for a better charger that has some sort of time read out and indication light when the battery is fully charged. Does anyone have any ideas?

I don't know if this is the best method but this is what I do. Get a UPS and hook up your gel cells to it. I think they can be gotten cheap from the states (maybe second hand will also do).

Depending of the UPS, it may have read out or indicator lights when the battery is fully charged. Gel cells generally like to be charged fully all the time and when it fully charged, the UPS can then can go into the trickle charge mode. So you actually don't have to worry if you have overcharged the gell cell when you hook it up to a UPS.

Don't use a 10 amp battery charger for a 7amp battery!!! It will cook it and possibly explode! These batteries do not like to be fast charged at much more than 1 amp. Get the Supernova, I've had one for a year and it's the best buy hands down! I even charged a car's battery at the races off of a 12v deep cycle battery that had been charging my packs all day long, after an hour and a half the car started right up! Now that's handy!

One question about the super nova. Can I plug it into the wall and use the wall outlet as the power supply to charge my battery?

Nope, it's 12volt only. You have to either use a power supply or a 12v battery to power it. If I can find it, there is a wiring diagram to convert a computer power supply to a 10 amp 12volt power supply (which I have done and still use on occasion). I race off-road and use a 12v car battery because there usually is no 120volt AC power at the tracks.
