Default Gear Ratio

Hey guys, was wondering how I could get more top end speed using gear ratio. Do I go smaller on the spur gear and bigger on pinion gear or vice versa?

Thanks.

If there's another thread about this, please give link to same.

Bigger on the pinions smaller spurs makes more speed.

rs4 3 i just upgraded the clutch, flywheel, ported the header, can i upgrade the gears for even more top end speed im still new the to rc, you guys said go bigger on the pinions and smaller spurs, has any one tried doing this on a rs4 3 w/2speed tranny, maybe i can get some part #s or something, and will a ball differential set and a front one-way differential make it faster too. any info will help. thanks

Changing the gearing as explained above will give you more top speed. The downside is you will loose some low end acceleration. By changing the gearing you can balance the acceleration and top end to your track or driving style. The ball diff and front one way are to increase handling, which will make you faster around a track. If you use the front one way, you will loose the front brakes. For a new racer, I would recomend using heavy diff oils. Heaver in the front then the rear. Make sure that you seal up the diffs first though.
