ran my first 1/8 race!
 

i ran my first 1/8 race at r.a.m.s in norcal. boy it was a lot of fun. however, it wasn't pretty. i came in last in the b-main and DNF'd every qual and the main. i was trying to drive my evolva like my sedan and the other racers were telling me that i shouldn't. they told me that i need to drive on-power and use the "rear wheels to steer". that concept is still boggling to me. i guess i have to learn to trust the car. also, thinking back, for a beginner, i think i went overboard on the motor. instead of the c5 i picked up, i probably should have bought a ws7 or something else with less juice so that i can concentrate on my lines more.

anyways that's it for my comments.

ps i'd like to thank rich browne for helping me out and making me feel welcome at the track. it was intimidating to make it out there not knowing anyone at r.a.m.s.

When they say "Drive it with the rear wheels" they mean to push it around corners, on power. That locked rear diff will actually spin it out on power, so try and keep excelerating throughout the curve. It's almost like a controlled slide, I don't even keep the front wheels turned the whole time, just enough to get it oriented, then punch it! A less powerful motor won't help you much, just don't squeeze the throttle too hard for a while... ;)

You may want to richen up your top end a little or use a smaller restrictor in your carb to calm the power down a little. :nod:

A few things I found most important when I first starting with the 8th's:

First SQUEEZE the trigger, don't Yank it like you would a TC, coming off a corner, pull the trigger slowly at first, till it gets wide open.

Secondly, keep your tires with the split the Manufacturer suggest, I don't know what it is on a Kyosho, 7mm on my MRX3,there's night and day difference between a car with the right split( and Ride Height ) and one that is off.

You also might try setting the car up softly at first, so the car doesn't slide too much, till you learn the trigger stuff, then later go to the stiffer settings the fast guys are running. It'll help keeping the car straight under acceleration, they can spin the tires all the way down a straight.

And lastly, dial in that rear toe-in, that'll help keep the car straight under hard acceleration.

8th scale is the BOMB! Isn't it? I've been running mine about 8-9 mos., and I just had my 1st TQ this past weekend, with a full heat, and every raceday I've been setting personal best laps, I Love driving these cars. :nod:
