Default opinions on what I should be looking at?

Hello, I havent been on this forum or with a car in long long time..I have had a nitro buggy before and a electric rustler, but now I want a on-road nitro powered car. I just have no idea what is good these days for well we shall say a "starter."

I want your opinion on good RTR kits but also upgradable for well..speed I want to go fast!! but dont we all haha

Also what are some of the "cheaper" kits out and how much more avg. would I be spending on a kit over a rtr?

Im 17 and just got a job and well my paychecks are going to this and I want to buy something as soon as possible, so please help me!!

Don't shop here...

Visit your local hobby stores and find out what they keep in stock, kits, parts, tires etc etc.

No point buying a car online, breaking it your first day out, and having to order parts online to fix it...

I just got my first nitro car, I bought the RDLogics Mongoose, not an RTR though.

The HPI rtr cars seem very popular, there is also the Associated nitro tc3 rtr plus, which would be a more competitive car for racing.

Lots to choose from, but first find out what you can get locally.

If your hobby shop doesnt carry much on road material, find an online shop such as www.towerhobbies.com that carries alot of support parts for companies. To get more of an idea of what you want, i know you said rtr but what scale? If 1/10 i cant think of many rtr 1/10 cars that would be upgradeable and still competative. What price range are you working with?

Yeah I have ordered my first car from towerhobbies, and ive been search all night and found this store 15 minutes from me... http://www.centralrchobbies.com/default.cfm
they carry mostly off road types of vehicles, not 1 car kit or rtr car though

price range...well im seeing stuff between $300-$500 so I guess in that area. I was looking at HPI RS4 and TA NTC3 those seem to be rtr kits lots of people buy but are they sluggish compared to what was listed above?

Maybe since my store carries off road products I should be looking into buggies?

Sonic,

Is there a track in your area?

You can change the gears on any rtr which may give it more speed, and you can also change the engine and pipe. The ntc3 rtr can be upgraded easily to be competitive if you want to race it..

An rtr will run you $400 or so, if you try and put one together yourself....

Kit $300
Engine $200
Pipe $50
Radio $200
Starter box $80
etc....

See what I am saying?...

500? your stuck in between a rock and a hard place. not many rtrs are upgradeable to pro from. and almost all pro cars will cost you more than 500. i would say that if you could work with about 700-800 you could get your feet wet with a very basic g4 from towerhobbies. It 166 bucks but it doesnt include some basic competiton parts, yet they are available from teamtrinity.com. if you really look forward to any type of competiton in the future, i wouldnt really recommend the rs4 3 from hpi. its a nice starter car for parking lot runs and all but not meant for the track really.

I dont have any tracks near close to me so basically I just want a fun fast toy for smooth parking lots, I have a pocket bike that I also ride with friends so I just wanted another fun toy to play with, I dont need it to be "raceable" just a fun fast toy.

xr80 is 1/8th scale. The question is, do you even have 1/8 scale tracks to run on lol. If not youll need 1/10th scale.

And the question is for that, do you even have 1/10th scale tracks to run on. Cause if not a pro car will be a waste. Do you plan on racing?

If you want to get into the hobby for cheap. Go used. If not go cheap.

You can get a kit for 250 or so new (serpent 710 or R40).
Motor 130 (look up sts , rdlogics or team infinity motors...needs to be sg shaft rear exhaust and slide carb) then pipe 50 (ths) , starter box (get a used one of rctech or ebay for 50).

Now your good to go. Then goto rcmart.com order some jaco nitro shoes in a few shores and your set for tires.

Hope that helps.
