Up next is Michael Salven's Serpent 960.
A few interesting things about this new car:
During the first days of the event the car seemed unable to follow the pace of the other cars such as MRX4 and Kyosho EVOLVA. As the event progressed it was very interesting to see how the performance of the other teams started to drop, mainly due to hotter conditions, but the performance of the Serpent cars started to improve! By the end of qualifying, it seems to me that Salven's 960 is the most stable car out there. On the track it seems as if he is trying to find at what point the car will become loose but it simply doesn't happen! His car is very stable and espacialy on the fastest part of the track which is the leftturn at the end of the straight he takes it flat out without any hesitation or correction.
At the beginning I was very impressed by the MRX4 of Ielasi and the EVOLVA of Tironi but now I am starting to think that Salven has a very good chance to do well in the final if he manages to get into, which he will, unless he has a DNF during the semis..
I went to talk to Salven about the new car and he told me the following:
1. He only uses 1.5 degrees of rear Toe-In as there is a lot of rear grip and he can take advantage of this by having higher top speed due to less drag.
2. He has a setup with middle to thin oil in the shock absorbers with medium to hard springs. (maybe you guys know better what the blue & purple springs are)
3. He showed to me how the new shocks work and they seem really good. They only open from the bottom and it is very simple to built them, as well as being consistent with all four shocks. In fact he gave me one to built on my own right there in front of him and it took me only a few seconds to make it perfect.
4. He is very happy with the improvement of his performance as he believes that the car is very easy to drive and considaring the hot weather, his lap times are very good.
He did tell me that he always emphasizes on the final and he feels confident for tomorrow.
Overall, a pretty nice guy, very helpfull and willing to explain a few things..
