On-Road engines vs. Off-Road engines.
I'm looking into doing nitro 1/8 onroad and was wondering what the difference between onroad and off road engines.

The on-road engines tend to be higher revving and are designed with their power band higher up the rev' range. (Although I feel this is changing somewhat)
The off-road engines tend to have better low down power ..... their torque and power are lower in the rev' range and tends to be higher then their on-road counterparts.
This is just a personal outlook on your question though.....

Off road engines tend to be built with lower fuel consumption in mind leading to comprises with overall power. The on road engines are build to run 5 minutes max and pushed for max power. A total generalisation but along with the previous comments it's all about right.

just for sharing as im using alpha lutz on previous race due to my reds m7wc i break conrod...i just change the head for on road and exactly its last choice as my spare engine i forget to bring but in the end just have to play safe on straight but in chicane its having great power.
so my point of view of both engine got their own power. if you race on small medium track with technical layout i just use my alpha lutz or club racer as i need torque but on big following track will go for my sonic ls or reds m7
