Does any 960 owner (including team drivers) experienced the 2-speed drive shaft SNAPPED during action...? My friend oversea had 3 cases so far....all snapped (suspected due to the new brake linkage design).....and they want me to ask the support here and see any one experienced something like that...

I personally hard to believe that shaft can be snapped...probably the last piece of item I would expect that need to be replace (more then once).....

To answer your Question.
I have had 2 snap. I'm not sure of the reason but they are. A good friend of mine has also broken 1. they are snapping right on the flat spot for the set screw in the center of the shaft. I have heard rumor that someone online is selling a Titanium version of the shaft.

The newer 2-speed shafts only have the flat spots on one side. You should not have any problems breaking them.

Ok....so my friend are not alone, and exactly, what is the cause for the breaking? I find it hard to believe the 2-speed SHAFT is the one taking the snap, I think I have NEVER break a main drive shaft on any RC car that I had ever own.....

So...the stock one has 2 flat spot for the set screws, and according from C Verano, the updated one has only 1 flat spot..? What is the parts # of that...?

That is critical for my friend over in HK, cause Michael Salven and the Serpent gang are heading to HK pretty soon, and several of my firend that just owned the new 960 ALL (yes, all) had snapped their shaft already without any replacment (no stock of a rare to break parts like that)

It is not just the Serpent one, there is a company called "SHOOTER" that made Titanium shaft for 950R/960, and it ended up the same thing....so it does seems like it is NOT the material problem, it is some techical drivetrain problem....(related to the brake linkage...?)

I doubt it had anything to do with the brake linkage.

The original 2-speed shaft had flats ground on 2 sides of the shaft. The recent one only has it on one side.

I believe the Shooters 2-speed is not Titanium but just hollow. I think they put the flats on both side too and that's why they are breaking.

Guys...thanks for the 2-speed shaft information, I do have to say, Serpent does have one of the best customer service (at least in USA).

Ive been driving an evolva all year and when the 960 came out changed back to serpent. However i dont know what affect changing the ackerman holes on the 960 has. Would someone be able to explain it please? Like the differences of e.g. no.2 servo saver and which holes have what affect?

Thanks!
