I thought about that, but the Serpent 40 and 45wt are listed as 1000 and 1400 cts respectively. I'm not sure anyone else's shock oil is available in those viscosities. I only see X-ray, for example, going up to 900.

That conversion chart (if I'm thinking of the same one) doesn't seem to show anyone else up to 1400 cts (or anywhere near the 2250 cts they say the Serpent 50wt clocks in at, if Serpent even makes that anymore or anyone uses it).

As long as Serpent is still selling their shock oil, I'll find some eventually.

Xray go far higher than 900cst, its called diff oil and I run 1000cst diff oil in the shocks of my XT8.

Greg,

Did you guys get your race in? I see the engine is in your signature. Nice.

Hi Steve

We haven't had a meeting yet and the quick run I have had between the rain didn't go that well. Cars maiden run and I fried the clutch. I have parts arriving today, but won't get a run in this weekend as am out of town with a big off road meeting. Next opportunity is in 2 weeks at a race meeting.

Tested a 960 yesterday, loved it and bought it... What servos do you guys use in this car? Im using BLS451s in my sedan, but that was before Towerhobbies cranked up the servo $10 more (meaning $20 for both).

anyone using the new softer rear swaybar blades ?
i havent run the kit yet, but i have been delivered the new softer blades. i think the ones in the kit are 1.2mm thickness. and the updated ones are 0.8mm thickness. ill be running on a low - med traction track. since they are blades, i guess i can use the thinner ones and harden them up as required ? , cheers for any input.

Default Weird problem

Hi, i've had this problem for sometime now and can't really solve it so i'm asking to know if i'm the only one.

I have a 960-08 and after mounting the engine and setting the Centax (according to Serpent's instructions) the pinions never line up with the spur gears. I'm not talking about the gear mesh, i mean the 1st gear pinion sits about 1.5mm further in than the 1st gear spur.

The engine can not be put further out. I've tried putting shims behind the flywheel but that just makes it impossible for me to adjust the clutch gap correctly.

Anyone has this problem ?

PS: I'm using the monobloc that came with the 960-08, but i had the same problem with my normal 960 with LCG chassis and monobloc.

EDIT: Added picture of the problem.

what engine are you using ?
im currently setting mine up with the nova 359, and im having clearance issues more so with the carb and tank. like the tank needs to drop down more so i can open the carb up , so it doesnt hit the tank.
with the engine issue, is it possible to have the pinions on backwards ? like the recess for the pinions when they go on, to sit further in on the bell ? or use a shim or 2 to space out the 1st pinion more ? just a thaught.

Yes, thats the problem with the monobloc. The engine is so low that you either have to put the carb higher (add some o-rings) or lower the tank by using Lipos or the AAA battery packs. I'm using the AAA battery packs since i already had that problem with the LCG chassis and monobloc.

Yep, i didnt try that yet mainly because i have the tool from serpent to measure the clutch clearance and that would make it impossible to use. I'm hoping for another solution because the problem must happen with every engine since the shaft is SG, so they should all be the same size.

PS: I have 2 engines and i have this problem with both. Sirio LC21 and Novamega SX21 Evo5 KHM.

My original 960 with an RB S7C had the same problem, but my new 960-08 with an RB C5 lines up perfectly.

As for the tank, my mounts have no spacers under them and there is just enough room for a aaa pack. I can't see how it would work with cells bigger than aaa.

The pinion to spur distance can be adjusted (slightly).

By adjusting the amount of shim behind the flywheel (between the flywheel collet and the front engine bearing).

For example, if you add 0.5mm of shim between the flywheel collet and the front bearing, this will in turn move the flywheel, flyweights, clutch plate, and clutch the same distance (0.5mm) further away from the motor (out)..

Then once you reset the clutch gap (with the same clutch gap used before), you're clutch bell, which the pinions are mounted too will then move 0.5mm further out/away from the motor.

Basically, with a fresh clutch (new clutch shoe), once built the number of shims (size and number) used at the thrustbearing could be "zero"... So, if you're new clutch is using 1.0mm of shims at the thrustbearing, that would be your opportunity to realign the pinions to spur.

when i used to run my G4, there were small shims to use if you couldnt set the endplay. basically the retainer tightens on the crank shaft. these shims are the same outer diameter as the retainer, but the internal diameter is same size as the retaining screw. so to add shims this way acts like the crank is longer than it is. i hope you understand that. and the shim i was talkingabout earlier, was to move the 1st pinion further away from the 2nd pinion, but not affecting the clutch gap or end play. the shim to go over the pinion threads.

i have a lipo on the way to lower the tank a little, so i should get rid of my carb issue. thanks.
